"This workstation is now the ultlimate power in the universe."

Ok, well, maybe not THE ultimate. But it's still pretty awesome and just preposterously powerful...

Which is to say, that I got my Xmas/Birthday present a little early:

4 64-bit PowerPC G5 processors running at 2.5 GHz (2 Dual Cores, really)
2 GB DDR2 SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT with 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM
500 GB SATA HD
16X Dual Layer DVD Burner
+ extra shinyness

I just completed a workunit for SETI@home in 2 and quarter hours. I mean while I've been installing and copying over my old apps and documents. And trying out a few apps to see how snappy they are even if some aren't optimized to take advantage of the 4 64 bit processors in there. Did I mention snappy? It's so wicked awesome. I can't wait to get knee deep in rendering some 3D animation and a pile of video. So, so, cool.

So I'm bragging while I can.

I also got a new computer, and while it is probably four years old it is new to me and I am happy.

How much did this powerhouse machine cost?
There's the biiiig computer show here next weekend and I might just buy some steroids for my computer.

Or go nuts and get something new.

You forgot to mention the best part, OS X.

Congratulations - I'm insanely jealous.

Yeah. Er... A lot.

Also, I don't think I get how the newly BOINCified SETI@home SETI @ home works. Such that for all the work-units I am completing, I'm not seein' any credits...

So far, in my experience, for the most part, it doesn't.

So this is a good system to get?

I need a new computer - actually was going to get it at the start of the year but everytime I get around to looking up stuff - it's all advanced again. Well I'm getting a computer for Birthday/Christmas. I want to do video editing stuff - capturing my old videos etc. That's to begin with - but with a top notch computer I might discover new things I might want to do.

Actually if you're not into the whole uber-power thing, then a much more cheaper good system to get is the new iMac. Still does the things you list.

I also like two buttons and a scroller [Smile]

I have to laugh at people that presume Mac mice are only one button. I watched a guy use a Powerbook with a mouse that had more buttons and scroll wheels than I would ever use.

And you do realize that Balaam's new computer is, in fact, a Mac.

Well, it was easy to miss the subtle clues coming from the Macatics.

Yes, you're despicable, and... and picable... and... and you're definitely, definitely despicable. How a person can get so despicable in one lifetime is beyond me. It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.

Yes, because multi-button mice have been part of Apple's official accessory list for so long.

Mmmmm. I bet that beast can play some mean games. That's really the only reason I use a computer. Oh and Flare...
