By my calculations It's

300 light years across (Bajor-Romulas,Bajor-Qu'nos)

700 light years long (DS5-Mira)

Bajor is about 200 light years from Earth

Earth is about 95 light years from Romulas and Qu'nos

Romulas is about 75 light years from Qu'nos

Betazed-Earth is 150 light years

Klingon Empire is about 200 light years by 300 light years

Qu'nos-Kithomer 140 light years

Qu'nos-Narenda 75 light years

Romulan Empire is about 250 light years by 350 Light years

Romulas-Galmaron Core-80 light years

Romulas-Angel One 50 light years

Angel One-Neutral Zone 2.5 light years

Romulas-Neutral Zone 3.5 light years

Galmaron Core-Neutral Zone 1 light year

Deneb-Earth 3300 light years

DS5-Earth 150 light years

Mira-Earth 550 light years

Earth-Antares 800 light years

Earth-J-25 7000 light years

J-25 to Starbase 185 4500 light years

Starbase 185-Earth 2500 light years

DS9-DS5 250 light years

Romulas-DS5 50 light years

Betazed-DS9 50 light years

Cardassia-Earth 205.25 light years

Cardassia-Betazed 55.25 light years

Cardassia-Chin'toka 4 Light Years

DS9-Chin'toka 2.5 light years

DS9-Cardassia 5.25 light years

DS9-Bajor 500,000 million KM (3-5 hours at Full Impulse) (5 minutes @warp 5)

300 light years across (Bajor-Romulas,Bajor-Qu'nos)
Bajor is about 200 light years from Earth
Earth is about 95 light years from Romulas and Qu'nos

If Bajor, Earth and Romulus/Quo'nos (Or whatever it's spelled) are in one straight line, that's 295 lightyears.
Also, you are assuming that Romulus is just over the the border, just outside the Neutral zone.

Now, I'm not saying you're wrong or something, just that your reasoning is slightly flawed.

The weirdest part is that in almost every map, the Federation is wider (Bajor to Romulus) then 'high' (outer rim to center of the galaxy).

Well, there's also the fact that some of the numbers are just plain wrong.

While disputable, the DS9TM sets Bajor at 50ly from Earth.

Other distances from Earth:
Antares - 520ly
Deneb - 1600ly
Mira - 103ly

There's also that third dimension that needs to factored into the size of the galaxy and all territory within it. I think someone hinted at that earlier though.

Actually, it says that Starbase 375 (which is near Bajor) is 50ly from the "core worlds" of the Federation.

Which could mean anything.

The encylopedia also says that the territory is I think 8,000 lightyears across

It also says that it'd take over a year to cross it at high warp speeds. Which is ridiculous, frankly. How many civilian cargo vessels and the like are going to be capable of warp 9?
