On Monday, September 9th of the year 2002 at 3:00 pm (1500) I will be picked up to go to Basic Training (Boot Camp) for nine weeks at the Great Lakes.

Now I am not saying I will never come back, but it will be months before I will post here again. I will finish my work before I leave *wink, wink* U-a P-a hree ta.

Can't say I didn't have fun here, but "It... was... fun."

NNNNOOOOO!!!!!! I've went through that, I can tell you it's not worth it. It sucks!

Having said that, keep this in mind ... "Do what you're told, when you're told, and how you're told." Never question an order. NEVER say "yeah" or "ok" in response to an order. Never ask for and want anything, you must "respectively request" it.

I could go on and on but I won't. You'll find out on your own. But if I could do it all over again, I don't think I would have joined the Navy.

I'm sure you may have tried learning your 11 General Orders. That is a definate must to memorize, trust me I speak from experience. Also learn your chain of command asap.

President: Mr. Bush
Vice-President: Mr. Cheny
Secretary of Defense: Mr. Rumsfield
Secretary of the Navy: Mr. England
Chief of Naval Operations: Admiral Clark
and so on ...

And finally Anchor's Aweigh...
quote:
[Verse 1]
Stand, Navy, out to sea, Fight our battle cry;
We'll never change our course, So vicious foe steer shy-y-y-y.
Roll out the TNT, Anchors Aweigh. Sail on to victory
And sink their bones to Davy Jones, hooray!

[Verse 2]
Anchors Aweigh, my boys, Anchors Aweigh.
Farewell to foreign shores, we sail at break of day-ay-ay-ay.
Through our last night on shore, drink to the foam,
Until we meet once more. Here's wishing you a happy voyage home.

[Verse 3]
Blue of the Seven Seas; Gold of God's great sun
Let these our colors be Till all of time be done-n-n-ne,
By Severn shore we learn Navy's stern call:
Faith, courage, service true With honor over, honor over all.

You'll only need to know the first 2 verses though.

One piece of advise. You're gonna catch hell from the higher-ups - never take it personally. It's not done to destroy you, but to toughen you up.

Good luck... you're gonna need it. [Razz]

Gosh yes, the most important thing one could learn in basic training is the name of the President of the United States. Wouldn't want to screw that up, and take orders from Prime Minister Thaksin Chinnawat of Thailand. The embarassment!

People have told me which worked for my cousin who was one of the most rebelious kids that would ever see, to be a drone, absorb everything they say. After boot camp and several months of duty as a Marine, he came back as a totally new man. So I will try to be as much a drone as I can be. I heard alot of stories, like never put trash in the trash can, never ever for the love of your mother look at them straight in the eye, and of course never take anything personally as someone mentioned.

my only advice is to enjoy the adrenaline rush that you're sure to get that first day. Most people never even get yelled at like that in their entire lives, much less some of the other stuff you'll be doing. Have fun with it, and be cool. You'll do fine.

could be worse for you.....

You could do PT for a couple hours before chow, then jump right in to classes, then have more chow, then run to your next classes, then have more chow, then get all you shit together for the next morning....

Oh, wait, you will be doing this.... Plus the cleaning of the barracks, or bay, depending on building type....

LOL..... YOU FOOL!!!!!!!!!

No, really, good luck, just remember that the first few weeks are the worst, as they try to cut you out with their mind-games.....
I went 5 weeks in to the first 8 with my DS not knowing I was even in his platoon, he called me a liar the first time he asked me which platoon I was in. Of course, after he realized he had ignored me for 5 weeks the next few were pretty shitty....

You get shouted at for putting trash in a trash can? Where are you suppossed to put it? In the drill sergeants trousers?

Yes, you're despicable, and... and picable... and... and you're definitely, definitely despicable. How a person can get so despicable in one lifetime is beyond me. It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.

Ah, the Mortar Man, only bad thing is you can't see the look on the bad guys face when it dawns on them that they're about to be turned into a spot of grease on the ground. Don't take me for a psycho, I just love blowing stuff up. [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Those 'drones' they're called Marines. You'll hear all about "military bearing" but it's meaningless because once you're out of boot it all goes away. Believe me, no one in the Navy are mindless drones. We're all pretty much the same people we were before we joined.

Yeah, that first night was killer. You don't know what the hell to expect. It's probably without a doubt the worst time in boot camp I recall.

The deal with the trash cans ... there's several of them in the compartment and you NEVER put trash in them. There's another trash can in the head which you use. There's also tables down the center which you also never use.

There's also a lot of cleaning of the compartment as well. If not for the fact they have nothing better for us to do. The sad thing is we clean with socks. We don't get actual cleaning equipment. Not that I and most people in Division 192 actually cleaned. We just hid in the back by the pea coats and under racks while those losers from 191 cleaned for us. [Big Grin]

Also expect to get really sick in your first few weeks. It happens to every division. You'll be coughing like crazy every night.
