I use IE just because when I look past the stereotypical "Microsoft sux" business, IE5 really is better than Netscape 4.5 for my personal browsing needs. Plus, with IE built into Win98 anyway, there's hard drive space saved without Netscape on there. Tiny 2-gig laptop drives bite. I think most people who love Netscape so much only do it because they hate Microsoft, not because they look objectively and weigh the two. They're basically identical in my experience, aside from IE5's greatly improved search, autofill, and favorites system... oh well, I can't say I really give a crap what browser I use, to be honest, I'm not some sort of power-user or anything. If I can read web sites and see the pretty pictures, I'm happy.

Well, I use to be a dedicated Netscape user, but I was finally forced into downloading IE4 by AOL. Although I dreaded it from my experience with the IE4 beta, I found that pages loaded much faster with IE4. I also preferred the layout of the toolbar and bookmarks -- full screen mode is the best! -- as opposed to Netscape. And overall, I just had fewer lockups with IE4. IE5 is even better, and I don't regret giving up Netscape one bit.

Until you can buy Win95-98-00? without IE already installed, there's no savings in buying another browser when you already have one installed.
It's as if Ford decided that since so many people who buy (pick-up) trucks also buy a camper shell to cover the truck bed, they'd just weld one onto every truck they built, and say it was a "no-cost extra". A lot of people wouldn't worry about it, since that's how they wanted their truck to begin with. Others would complain that the shell limited their ability to carry outsized cargo (occupying space they'd rather use otherwise.)
Leer company (a camper shell company) might decide that's unfair competition, and sue. If someone wanted a Leer camper shell, they would either have to completely disassemble the truck to get the shell off or take a torch to the welds. Another option would be to just forget it and use the one that came with the truck.
A lot of us use IE because our computer came with it and we don't want to spend more money to use something else. You can't really uninstall IE without screwing something up, so the heck with it. I don't care.
If Bill Gates gets too cocky, my next computer will run on Linux.

I don't care which browser I use. I used to use MSIE 3.0, I switched to Netscape 4.0, now I run MSIE 4.0. I think MSIE runs better, yet I still use Netscape Mail Messenger. Go figure.

Well, With Netscape I get illegal operation errors when I close it, with Exploiter, I get script errors and I have to watch as it chews up pages with java. So, I'd rather stick with Netscapes errors than Exploiters.

Some very good points raised...
I use Netscape as my primary browser because, unlike IE, it will NOT accept sub-standard HTML, such as incomplete tables, etc. Right now, IE5 has the better rendering engine, but I'm anxiously awaiting a stable build of the new Netscape engine.........

Well, I'm just the opposite to Frank when it comes to this. I have Communicator 4 and IE4, but I don't like how Netscape brings up pages. I also think the interface for Netscape is "clunky."
Outlook Express is a really good plus to IE4 and IE5 too.

IE5 is now out of BETA, and has been for a week or two I think. I use IE5, partly because of personal preference (I prefer the screen layout, bookmarks and history layout), and I've found that IE5 is indeed faster than IE4 (although I don't know how this compares to Netscape, haven't used it in a while). My roomate uses netscape though, and to be honest I don't notice any difference in how the two display web pages.
