I know its somewhat against the spirit of Forum Competitions to have two contests from one person running simultaneously, but seeing as the punchline-to-aghast-statement-of-shock ratio on my Wheaton/Tiffany capcom is so miserable at present I thought I'd try this one out.

We've recently reflected upon the divine resplendence of the fanboy barrier. It is what keeps our particular brand of weird shitness our own, and keeps out competing versions of weird shitness that involves Brannon Braga swimming in ox's blood or Battlestar Galactica Slash Fanfic or vitriolic debate about Jar Jar's sexual orientation (and his 120/170m long penis).

In celebration of this, in what could best be described as a dose of good-natured Flare nationalism, I hereby challenge everyone to scavenger hunt. Contestants are encouraged to peruse other scifi-related BBSes and post links to what in their opinion is the best example of what the fanboy barrier normally keeps out.

Obviously, let it be stressed that this shouldn't and isn't intended to incite any kind of immature swiping between this board and any other. We're all meant to be friends out here, and Charles doesn't need the headache. Resist the urge to post in the subject matter you have selected to tell TEH_PHASOR_1701 we're all going to laugh at him/her, err, him over here. This isn't about Flare being better than/worse than/smarter than/better-dressed than any other forum. (Hell, I can think of a few examples of posts from here where its debatable if the fanboy barrier worked.) This is a celebration of all that we smile and feel glad we don't see here on an hourly basis.

The only rule I'm going to enforce is that the sample must have been posted no earlier than in the past week. The fresher, the better.

So, um, shoot.

Links to hostile or troll-ridden forums will be removed... and this contest WILL be pulled if there's a negative reaction from ANY of the forumites linked to.

TrekBBS is many things, but "boring" isn't one of them.

Considering Charles is reverting to his natural gelatinous state resembling a wet blanket, allow me to kick things off. [Wink]
Aside: I'm assuming, Charles, by troll-infested, you mean the likes of anti-social.com and co. The kind that'll actively rally together and direct their jerkiness at us. I think we're all bright enough to avoid such places, right?)

(C'mon, everybody! Let me show you what fun is!)

BTW, i frequent the Art and Literature forums of the TrekBBS, but the rest of it is a steaming pile of shit that should be formatted and used to host websites about how to make homemade paper.

I remember my first thread, in the TOS forum, where i was flamed for trying to post in the TOS forum because i was a 'Bermanite' because my website featured a picture of me wearing a TNG era uniform. I attempted to point out incorrect statements made there and was implicated as being part of an ongoing troll war being fought by a group of posters in the TNG forum, and that their attacks on me were justified because the TOS posters had started it by performing similar misdeeds in 'their' forum.

the best way to track down exactly what the Fanboy Barrier keeps out can be found in the Moderator Actions forum... it links back to every pathetic thread that is a source of controversy...

It have been Mutai Sho Rin who closed down my thread about Archer having morning wood after a facefull of T'Pol's titties. There was no explanation as to why. It was just closed. Hack!!

The other reason that Mutai Sho Rin must be fired without delay is because of his part in the conspiracy to permenantly illegally ban the Trek BBS account of one Che Guevara.
If you go to the GFHH on TK and find the BR Room thread where the cabal of RobL, Lisa, Barcode & Tamek discuss the illegal ban of Daystrom, you will find a post by Mutai Sho Rin where he accuses me of threatening his daughter.

Then, he insists that Che Guevara must be banned. Obviously, this guy is far to corrupted by the power he has to be a fair judge.

Cabals of moderators conspiring on other boards.. moderator supported ongoing flame wars.. the same way i am thankful i dont live in the middle east, i am thankful Flare is here and I'm not posting in TrekBBS

It's a good thing you haven't read the things our little cabal writes about in Moderator's Cor... er... Yes. Isn't this a lovely place?

Isn't that the place where the forum moderators dish out info like gossip?

Then what fun can there possibly be?

Yes, you're despicable, and... and picable... and... and you're definitely, definitely despicable. How a person can get so despicable in one lifetime is beyond me. It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.

Uh, we stopped prosecuting ThoughtCrime 18 years ago, Ritten.

Saying stuff is fun! Vagina! Democracy! TrekBBS! Proportional Representation! Breast!
