A couple of months ago, I set aside my Netflix DVDs and began pulling my old Deep Space Nine DVD sets off the shelf. I began with the pilot, which I'd intended to watch as a stand-alone, and then just kept watching the episodes in order. I just finished the sixth season (fare thee well, Jadzia), and have started the seventh. While watching, I think I've come up with a pretty tough set of trivia questions for those brave enough to try:

1. Name two characters who are mentioned by DS9 cast members, yet have never been seen in any episode of any series, nor ever portrayed by actors.

2. Name three distinguishing design characteristics of the Defiant-Class Starship, and one unique feature of the U.S.S. Defiant.

3. In "For The Uniform", what does Odo want Sisko to remind Starfleet Security of?

4. What item, previously belonging to Nog, does Worf own?

5. What reason does Dukat give to Sisko for his preference to still be referred to as "Gul" following the alliance between Cardassia and the Dominion?

6. What sport does Kassidy Yates' brother play? What planet does he play it on? What is this planet's signifigance?

7. In the Mirror-Universe, Miles O'Brien's counterpart is nicknamed what?

8. Via the station's access ladders, how many levels is it from the docking ring to an upper pylon's airlock?

9. Worf considers resigning from Starfleet and taking a job with what alliance?

10. Prior to his posting on the Saratoga, Ben Sisko fought in what conflict?

11. According to Lt. Commander Eddington, the Federation is worse than what?

12. In this fourth season episode, set primarily on Earth, the guest-star captain and the ship she commands are both given names relating to what 18th century American military disaster?

13. Why does Ben Sisko agree to write Nog a letter of recommendation to Starfleet Academy?

14. Deep Space Nine's Runabouts are named for what?

15. If you eat out on the Promenade, it'd be wise not to accuse the proprietier of this cultural restaraunt of dishonorable behavior.

16. What really happened at Roswell, 1947?

17. What is it about Sisko's relationship with the Bajorans that makes Starfleet nervous?

18. According to Weyoun 6, the Vorta were once little more than what?

19. Is Benny Russell the dreamer or the dream?

20. If you're ever shopping for wines or spirits, this cousin of Nog's is the Ferengi to see.

3. In "For The Uniform", what does Odo want Sisko to remind Starfleet Security of? That Starfleet sent Eddington to the station because they didn't trust Odo.

Little Big Horn.

Does the Defiant have regenerative shielding? I was going to say the new compact warp-core design for the third characteristic...they sure made a big deal out of it being over-powered.

I believe you mean the 19th century (1800s). There wasn't even an American military in the 18th century until 1776.

I'm going to answer as many of these as I can without looking at any previous responses or consulting any reference material. And I'm sure I'll be horrified by how many I actually know.

1. Name two characters who are mentioned by DS9 cast members, yet have never been seen in any episode of any series, nor ever portrayed by actors.

The captain with the clear skull (Boday, I think, but the spelling could be wrong). And the asexual crewman whose buds Bashir had to tend.

4. What item, previously belonging to Nog, does Worf own?

Tooth sharpener.

6. What sport does Kassidy Yates' brother play? What planet does he play it on? What is this planet's signifigance?

Baseball on Cestus III, which, as far as we knew, was violently being claimed by the Gorn.

7. In the Mirror-Universe, Miles O'Brien's counterpart is nicknamed what?

Smiley.

10. Prior to his posting on the Saratoga, Ben Sisko fought in what conflict?

The Tzenkethi War? (Not certain on that one.)

11. According to Lt. Commander Eddington, the Federation is worse than what?

Javert? Or is that just Sisko? He may have compared the Federation at large to the Dominion, maybe? (Addendum : After reading the other answers, I remember that it was, in fact, the Borg. So, never mind.)

14. Deep Space Nine's Runabouts are named for what?

Rivers. On Earth.

15. If you eat out on the Promenade, it'd be wise not to accuse the proprietier of this cultural restaraunt of dishonorable behavior.

Didn't they usually just call it "the Klingon restaurant"?

16. What really happened at Roswell, 1947?

Time-travelling Ferengis landed. With a shape-shifter. Then they all escaped.

17. What is it about Sisko's relationship with the Bajorans that makes Starfleet nervous?

The fact that they made him their Jesus.

19. Is Benny Russell the dreamer or the dream?

Yes?

"Captain De Soto WAS seen, though."

Yes, but not on DS9. I should've been more specific, though -- I did want characters unique to DS9.

1. Name two characters who are mentioned by DS9 cast members, yet have never been seen in any episode of any series, nor ever portrayed by actors.

Captain Boday and Lt. Pran (although Pran is NOT asexual, Dr. Bashir calls him "he.")

2. Name three distinguishing design characteristics of the Defiant-Class Starship, and one unique feature of the U.S.S. Defiant.

Class: Compact nacelle design, ablative armour, no on-board "luxuries."

Defiant: Cloaking Device.

3. In "For The Uniform", what does Odo want Sisko to remind Starfleet Security of?

Starfleet Security send Eddington to DS9 because they didn't trust Odo. Then Eddington went and became a traitor.

4. What item, previously belonging to Nog, does Worf own?

A tooth sharpener.

5. What reason does Dukat give to Sisko for his preference to still be referred to as "Gul" following the alliance between Cardassia and the Dominion?

Gul is more "hands on."

6. What sport does Kassidy Yates' brother play? What planet does he play it on? What is this planet's signifigance?

Baseball. Cestus III. It's role in TOS "Arena."

7. In the Mirror-Universe, Miles O'Brien's counterpart is nicknamed what?

Smiley.

8. Via the station's access ladders, how many levels is it from the docking ring to an upper pylon's airlock?

Fifty-seven.

9. Worf considers resigning from Starfleet and taking a job with what alliance?

Nyberite. (Sp?)

10. Prior to his posting on the Saratoga, Ben Sisko fought in what conflict?

The Tzenkethi War.

11. According to Lt. Commander Eddington, the Federation is worse than what?

The Borg.

12. In this fourth season episode, set primarily on Earth, the guest-star captain and the ship she commands are both given names relating to what 18th century American military disaster?

This was a two part answer. "Paradise Lost." Battle of the Little Big Horn.

13. Why does Ben Sisko agree to write Nog a letter of recommendation to Starfleet Academy?

Nog tells him that, like his father before him, he doesn't have the lobes for business. Whereas his father insisted on trying anyway (and getting nothing), Nog actually wants a future -- and wants it in Starfleet.

14. Deep Space Nine's Runabouts are named for what?

Earth's rivers. Good thing there are a lot of them, Kira says.

15. If you eat out on the Promenade, it'd be wise not to accuse the proprietier of this cultural restaraunt of dishonorable behavior.

The Klingon restaraunt.

16. What really happened at Roswell, 1947?

Ferengi. Sabotauged shuttles. Odo. Klingon shock troops.

17. What is it about Sisko's relationship with the Bajorans that makes Starfleet nervous?

He's a religious icon.

18. According to Weyoun 6, the Vorta were once little more than what?

Apes.

19. Is Benny Russell the dreamer or the dream?

The dream. (A vision sent by the Pah Wraiths to distract Sisko from opening the wormhole).

20. If you're ever shopping for wines or spirits, this cousin of Nog's is the Ferengi to see.

Gant.

The whole point of "Far Beyond The Stars" was, I think, to keep you wondering if Sisko dreamed about Benny or the entirety of Star Trek was dreamt by Benny (a la St. Elsewhere).
