Considering how lackluster I've found the Spock plot so far this season, I was pleasantly surprised by this episode.

Very cute "Previously on Star Trek" bit. Reminded me a lot of the "Previously on Doctor Who" bit they did in "Twice Upon a Time".

Not shocked that Vina showed up, considering how prominently she featured in said "Previously on Star Trek" bit. I gotta hand it to the episode, all of the stuff from the original pilot (Vina, the Talosians, even the singing plants) looked great. Just enough tweaking to make it look good for modern audiences.

I'm calling it right now: The Red Angel is Future Burnham. I thought to myself that it looked feminine once we got a closer look at it, and Spock specifically refers to it as "she". And how would the Red Angel know where to tell Kid Spock where Kid Burnham had gone unless it was actually Burnham?

And yup, kinda figured that's what Kid Burnham did to estrange Spock. I guess what I don't get is that wouldn't Sarek's family be a target for the logic extremists whether or not Burnham was there? I mean, there's another 1.5 humans in the household. Spock seems to intellectually understand why Burnham did it, but it's clear he's still hurt by it.

Pippa (darn it, Shik, you've got me calling her that now) is definitely out for Leland's job.

Pippa claims that she had the Mirror Talosians (and their "stupid singing plants" too) bombed out of existance. Considering the illusory power of the Talosians, I'd be willing to bet they're just fine and dandy and just let Pippa think they're dead.

Okay, Culber, we get it. You came back from the dead and spent a year in Magic Fungus Land. Stop being such a jerk about it.

Somebody on Discovery is sending huge coded transmissions somewhere. Everyone thinks its Tyler communicating with Section 31, but my money's on Airiam communicating with Brainiac.

Speaking of Brainiac, I'm thinking we're in a time loop of sorts. Burnham's the Red Angel trying to stop Brainiac, but Discovery investigating the signals causes Future Brainiac to use the probe from the previous episode to come back in time and possess Airiam. Airiam communicates with the Brainiac of the present which sets up the apocalypse that Spock saw, which causes Burnham to become the Red Angel to try to stop it. Time loop complete.

I'm rather hoping the Red Angel isn't Burnham. It just Mary Sues her even further. Plus it just makes sense to me that Spock would be able to tell it was her. I've no basis for that apart from a feeling, but it feels right (famous last words).

If the RA is female, then there's a limited pool of suspects. Tiered by likelihood, I'd suggest Burnham (even though I don't think it should be her), Tilly, Georgiou, Airiam. Then, less likely, Jett Reno, Owo, Detmers, the new character played by the old Airiam actress, or the new female doctor. I don't think it's going to be anybody from past Trek series.

Susan OLIVER. Melissa GEORGE. Hmm... a funny little coincidence, is all, but worth noting.

Blame Lin-Manuel Miranda, Krenim. He cast Philippa (Pippa) Soo, & since then...well.

Red Angel is a Kelpian.

I know Spock said “she”, but I’m convinced that the Red Angel is actually Future Guy, who got a sweet hardware upgrade to allow physical time travel. [Big Grin]

Wait a minute...

Discovery is set in the 23rd Century.

The probe upgraded by Brainiac was stated to have travelled 500 years into the future.

The 28th Century.

And who else is from the 28th Century?

Future Guy.

Just sayin'.

For more serious nitpicking, if Starbase 11 is only 2 light years away from Talos IV, why did nobody notice the Columbia’s distress signal for almost 20 years?

Maybe Starbase 11 came online after Pike's first visit to Talos?

Do we have a class designation or a name for Leland's ship yet?

No, that's the only secret thing about Section 31 as of now. [Big Grin]

My ubnderstanding was, there was no real distress signal, as there was only one barely-alive survivor, and the Talosians weren't the types to want to attract attention to their planet anyway. The signal was sent out to attract a ship, to provide her with some company. Which is a good way of explaining that, anyway.
