Let's address the elephant in the room first: Leland gets possessed by Control by injecting him with nanites/nanoprobes, and the visuals are more than a little similar to Borg assimilation. I'm really hoping that this season isn't a Borg origin story. All the attempts I've seen to tie the origins of the Borg to humanity or the Federation just come off as horrible fanfiction. And this is coming from a guy who writes horrible fanfiction. [Big Grin]

And speaking of Control... Why exactly does it need this data? I mean, the whole premise of this season is that Control gets the Sphere data, becomes sentient, and destroys all life in the galaxy. But it seems to be doing a great job of being evil and murderous without the Sphere data.

Pippa continues her Heel-Face Turn throughout the episode. Can't have her too villainous by the time her series starts, right? [Razz]

Now that Spock isn't being written as a complete jerk, I'm finding that I'm liking Ethan Peck's portrayal a lot more. Now, if we can just shave that beard off...

Also, good stuff with Burnham and her mother. While Burnham is frequently the weak link in this show, particularly the lackluster "I have to find Spock!" plot from the first half of this season, I've found the character more well-written than usual over the past two episodes.

Exactly my thoughts. Control will somehow infect Mama Burnham, and she'll be thrown back in time and become the first Borg Queen. And the show runners will praise their "clever" explanation why the Borg are so obsessed with humanity in an interview.

The FX department really could use some quality management. After the constantly open shuttlebay doors and the ridiculous turbolift rides, now the nacelles are torpedo launchers.

Did I imagine it or did RoboLeland shoot through the suit's control pack? Does that mean it didn't go into the far future and just went to the same place as Ma Burnham?

The logs have the location of her planet. My prediction is they'll find another time crystal, plug it into Stamets to make Timeship Discovery to go get her.

Hell, I'd rather have the awful idea that the Borg sprouted from Decker and Ilia than that.

Hmm... Maybe this ties into "Calypso"? The crew abandon the ship so that it can get to Mrs. Burnham "the long way 'round". She finds the ship and then rigs up a time thingy to send herself and the ship back to the 23rd Century. Season 3 then takes place aboard a thousand-year-old Discovery complete with Zora.

Just a thought.

I have this theory that somehow Lt. Nilsson (played by the original Airiam actor - there's never been, I don't think, an official explanation why they recast the role) becomes the first Borg Queen.

That's if they're going to go with the whole "Control becomes the genesis of the Borg" idea, which I think would raise the Mary Suedom of Burnham to a new level. She's brilliant and clever! She's Spock's sister! She can match Michelle bloody Yeoh in unarmed combat! And she (inadvertently) created the Borg!

And I say that as somebody who quite enjoyed the Destiny book trilogy's origin story for the Borg, though the fact it's not and never will be canon probably helps a lot...

Thinking about it some more, the fact Calypso is set "nearly a thousand years in the future" and the Red Angel/Dr. Burnham is stranded 950 years in the future, that can't be a coincidence...

Burnham makes the worst fucking decisions ever. Like, literally every single one has turned out to be the utter worst thing you could do.

Does "Seinfeld" still exist in Discoverse 2250s? Because someone needs to show this chick the "do the opposite" episode, stat.

Also, I noticed Wilson Cruz is no longer in the credits, but he's back in medwhites. But Clem Fandango got gutstuck & he's still there, soooo...??

The implications of the escape pod suggest he's still around. Plus the trailer for next week...

The missing credit for Cruz was a mistake.
