Yes, ladies and gentlemen!

After about 10 hours of being down, Flare is back, and better than ever.

Well, nearly anyway.

All ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND posts made have been returned, with the exception of about 750, which I can't find.

We're now running a state-of-the-art UBB - so new that it hasn't been released yet! Being the guy in charge of programming the thing does have its advantages.

A few things have changed for the worse.

First, there are only two member levels now - Member and Senior Member. The Senior Member threshold is still 250.

Second, you can no longer change your title if you are a Senior Member. You will need to ask an Administrator to do so for you.

Third, for those of us who are still Netscape users - UBB6 is TERRIBLE in terms of rendering times. I've taken steps to try and reduce this, but I don't know how successful they'll be.

Fourth, we actually look like a generic UBB now. Can't do much about that, YET.

Fifth, the new post flagging is a bit unusual if you're not used to UBB6. To clear the new post flags, visit the My Profile link above, then hit the appropriately titled link there. I'll be moving that up front soon.

Sixth (phew), the search is STILL down. Yes, I know. Sorry.

Seventh... as all of you know, I've had the UBB set to not show email addresses for a LONG time. While I've turned that setting off, I have switched all the profiles into hidden mode. If you want your email address viewable, you can edit your profile. I encourage you to use the private messaging system instead.

Stay tuned for more exciting changes, such as the ability to post without logging in first.

I don't like the mandatory login feature. I don't like the new "25 posts per page" limit." I don't like the times being in PDT. I don't like having to bother an admin to change my statusline for me (especially since they'll probably fuck it up anyway--Islenska's a tricky language). And these colors are horrid. Garak's thoughts on the decor in the apartment of Julian Bashir, secret agent come to mind.

Sometimes an upgrade isn't....& shouldn't be.

And another thing: is there a way to come in cookieless like there was on the previous incarnation? The "new post" icons irritate my buttocks.

The philosopher's stone. Those who possess it are no longer bound by the laws of equivalent exchange in alchemy. They gain without sacrifice and create without equal exchange. We searched for it, and we found it.

There's an easy way to change this. Optional fields can be activated in the CP under "Registration".

Another thought just occurred to me, Charles. You said that all 100,000 posts had been returned. Does this mean that all of the archived and removed threads from 1999 have been returned?

Spike: Uh, hi. I'm Charles Capps. I work for Infopop. I'm in charge of the official UBB code. I know where the options are.

The custom member profile status field is a new official addition to 6.1.0. It previously had to be hacked in by the board admin.

There is no faccility for users to change their status line (as Ted has indicated for us not to allow them to do so), so all status line changes must be done by the admins instead.

Siegfried: Most of them, yes. There are a few missing. I don't know where they are.....

Didn't know about this changes. It works in 6.04 so I thought it should work in 6.1 too.

It's different allright. Caught me by surprise.

Too early to form an opinion about.

Allright. I have returned from my little walk through the new Flare.

I hope the colours and graphis will change someday, because it looks so not-Flare .

Ack! Nooooo! Just when I was so close to becoming a full-fledged wacko boardmember!

Well, Flare's new look takes some getting used to, it's certainly a major overhaul... but it doesn't feel very "Flare-ish" yet/any longer. But I'm confident this new UBB'll carry the torch

Ok, and now to the important bit. Does the CPanel work yet, or is logging into the server still necessary?
