Ever since Barclay's first appearance in Voyager way back in the first or second season, I wondered exactly what his timeline is. This is as close as I can get.

-Serves on the Ent. D during the latter half of TNG.
-Leaves the Enterprise before the end of TNG to work at Jupiter Station to work with Dr. Zimmerman to create the EMH.
-Rejoins the Enterprise crew on the Ent E before First Contact.
-Leaves the Ent E about a year later to work on the Pathfinder project back on Earth and remains there until the present.

My question is, did Barclay ever actually work on the EMH program? That episode was basically a figment of the Doctor's imagination but it was also drawn from his files. So why would Barclay end up in his dilusion if he never was involved? The only problem is, neither the Encyclopedia (version 2) nor the Chronology mention his posting to the Jupiter Station or his work on the EMH. Anyone got any info? Is there an update in the new Encyclopedia?

There is a mention in the Encyclopedia 2:

"Lieutenant Barclay left the Enterprise-D and transferred to the Holoprogramming Center at Starfleet's Jupiter Station. He worked with Dr. Lewis Zimmerman on the engineering team that designed Starfleet's Emergency Medical Hologram program. Barclay tested the holographic doctor's interpersonal skills...."

Found on pgs. 33 and 34.

I think that pretty much establishes his transfer, unless of course you were referring to an exact date. I can't find an entry about that.

What's funny is that in "Pathfinder" at the end the Doctor talks about Barclay as if he had heard about him for the first time. Continuity seems a little screwed unless we assume he knew him as being one of his conceptor but decided to look up his file more in details.

My thoughts are that since he (Barclay) was not major contributor to the overall program, just the doctor's bed side manner. The Doctor overlooked his contribution to his program and looked into the database to find out more about Barclay

Can we then thank Barclay's personality quirks for the Doctor's bad bedside manner?

Well, I'll have to go back a read the Encyclopedia again. I must've zoned out or something.

Regarding the Pathfinder problem, the Doctor definately should've known who Barclay was since his name was made clear in that first or second season Voyager ep where the Doc thinks he's real and everybody else is holographic (still can't remember the name). Barclay explains who he is to the Doc and even though it's an hallucination, he should still recall the name. The Doc's memory problems later in the series could account for this though.

You'd think he would have mentioned the name to at least Janeway though.

Yes, but Janeway's memory isn't a computer. She may have thought, upon hearing Barclay's name, "Gee, that name sounds familiar. Oh, well, maybe I once met a Barclay somewhere, or something."
