I saw a nice picture of the ST5/ST6 phaser before, the last and most developed of the pistol phasers, and I got to thinking, what did the crew of the Ent-C use? Did they have an even later, updated ST-TUC pistol design, before it was all TNG? Or did they have an intermediate?

OK, I realise I haven't updated in absolutely years, and probably never will unless I ever figure out a way of redesigning the site using, I dunno, PHP or something, but still...

I realize that the Enterprise-C model ate up their budget, but it would have been nice to have some newer intermediate crew uniforms and phasers instead of the incredibly outdated movie uniforms & phasers.

Right? They would have only needed four or five total uniforms to be made- a pittance.

Well, at least they scaled the attacking KBOPs correctly...oh, wait.

yeah.

Thanks Lee, how nice that you had a writeup for just this occasion. 8-)

Well, too bad there wasn't an intermediate type, but at least we'll be able to see this "darker variant" of Type 2 in a month, when the Season 3 is available. Will be nice to see the Ambassador Class in HD for the first time.

Well, they'd probably need a few more than five uniforms, but still...how many times did they make uniforms for random aliens of the week that were never used again? The Rutians spring to mind:

And as far as the phasers went...ill-made fan designs of the TWOK phaser? Really? They could have bought some kids' futuristic-looking water pistols at a dollar store, painted them black, and they would have probably made more sense than these.

Dukhat: "One-and-done" alien costumes, Dukhat? That sounds like hogwash to me.

Coming back to the uniforms - when was the Stargazer lost? Because I think, by Picard's hallucinations anyway, they'd switched over to the TNG-1st season uniforms; would the -C have been lost about a decade prior?

Nim: I don't think that Dosai's getup would work as a credible-looking Starfleet uniform [Wink]

How about the Angosians? Heck, they even had divisional colors and badges:

Snay: Yep, the Stargazer was lost in 2355; the Enterprise-C was lost in 2344. And when Jack Crusher was killed in 2354, he was wearing the new uniform. So somewhere in those ten years was when the uniforms changed.

Actually some of my info was incorrect: When Jack Crusher made his recording for the newborn Wesley in 2348, he was wearing the old uniform (but with a new com badge). When he died in 2354, Picard and Beverly were wearing the newer Season 1 uniforms. So the uniform changed sometime between 2348 and 2354.

That's some nice detective work. Wonder if the switch from green to blue-beige LCARS was within that same window. Did the Hathaway have it in "Peak Performance"?

Hathaway had the same blue-green LCARS that the Stargazer did.

I...dont think so.
Really, who exactly do we see from the C?
Three dead bridge crew, the helmsman (who I think of as "Joe Piskapo"), the Captain Garrett and...that's it.
There are a couple in sick bay, I think, but those could have used the bridge crew uniforms.

Well to be honest, the number of uniforms really wasn't my issue...it was more that they probably could have created some newer ones even though most of the money went toward the studio model. And even that argument grew out of the fact that they used phasers that were even more outdated than the uniforms.

Yeah, good points- the phaser thing is pretty odd, but who knows what kind of time constraints they were under? They used to shoot a few episodes a week when possible and the wardrobe, prop and makeup people were always under the gun- explaining why we got such things as Dan Curry creating the prop of the Eco Poppo 627 in The Arsenal Of Freedom from a pantyhose container and a shampoo bottle...

By comparison, the antique phasers are minor- at least they were not obvious household items! [Big Grin]
