I found something strange in the Encyclopedia. It says the Ent-Nil was entirely refitted in 2270 to a Const-refit exterior ship. This means that in TMP, TWOK and TSFP the hull must have said "NCC-1701", because it was still the same ship. Then, 2285, it was destroyed by ol' Kirkyboy.*Then*, in 2286, the Ent-A was commisioned, a complete Const-refit (with new interiors, first named U.S.S. Yorktown) with hull saying "NCC-1701-A".
So, there must be shots of A Const-refit looking ship with "NCC-1701" markings, right? Did this actually happen?
PS: I know the Yorktown story is conjectual, but hey, Rodenberry himself said it! He is the only one that can actually make anything he thinks canon Star Trek.

I think the confusion stems from, people who first saw the movies from ST:IV onwards... The people that saw the first three when they came out would have naturally have said '1701' then when the A came out - people who watch all the movies - a lot of the time out of order - like when they are on Television and such - they generally see the same shape and design and name and think its all the A. I liked the E-A.

Yes, I'm not sure what's being asked here. The Enterprise in TMP was the original, although sporting what amounted to a complete rebuild.

Well I can't remember what the hull said in the first 3 movies, or *if* I even saw those movies. I was just wondering if the Encyclopedia got it right with saying there was a Const-refit Enterprise-nil.

In STTMP it says USS Enterprise NCC-1701 in the scene with kirk and scotty on the travel pod and we can see it clearly in the other two movies as well.
What exactly is the question because i am not sure what you are trying to say?

I believe he read in the encyclopedia that the E-nil was refit into a Constitution-II and didn't believe it, because he thought only the E-A was a Constitution-II. However, I think he now understands that all the movies used the C-II, but the first three were the E-nil, and only 4-6 had the E-A.

Keeping in mind that "Constitution II" is fandom shorthand for the design, and won't show up in the encyclopedia if someone tries to look for it.
