Has anyone done any DVD caps of the Wolf 369 wreckage scenes!?! I was looking at Copernicus Ship Yards site and noticed that there are lots of caps but they all seem to be from VHS video.

So - anyone done nice DVD caps yet?

Andrew

Yes, this matter was reasonably well touted a few weeks ago.

http://www.trekmania.net/the_fleet/utopia/screencap_analyses3.htm

or

http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/articles/wolf359.htm

being both of the Wolf 359 research team, the same images are used on both sites, with are own analyses though...

Wolf 369? Was that one of the battles during the Dominion War? Or one of the Klingon campaigns?

My complete library of caps is here:

http://home.att.net/~starships/centaur/index.html

But get 'em while you can... I'm not sure how much longer I'll keep all of them up.

The other ones I capped from the BTS stuff (of the Kyushu and the Firebrand/Princeton) are available at either Trekmania or EAS.

Hey, Red---

Just WHO, might I ask, is the owner of the elusive Buran model pic? What are his/her reasons for not wanting it released? Surely there can't still be thoughts of an Okuda-authored Wolf 359 book at this point...

I don't know the owner personally. But you know the familiar picture of the Buran with the fake colours and blurry quality? well it had to be purposely distorted, because Bernd, at the time lacked permission to use the real thing on his, and the other sites in the Wolf 359 research Team.

The guy took it from the infamous slide-show, there are others, such as the shot of the Springfield on the mug, which he did release, but he won't let us show the Challenger. Don't ask me why, it's bewildering. I think Mark (Delgado) or Bernd, were going to try and contact him again to persuade him.

I just can't fathom what the motivation would be for keeping it under wraps for this long. Hasn't it been like, you know, a decade since Okuda's slide show?

Dumb questions:

-Why did he release the Chekov-on-mug pic?
-Are those butt-ugly color-modified views of the Melbourne model his as well?

OK, before this gets any more out of hand, I'm going to tell all of you THE FACTS.

1. The blurry photos of the Melbourne, the Chekov on the coffee cup, and the Buran all came from Gary Perry. He just took pictures of the actual slideshow presentation. Yes, that's what the original photos looked like, don't ask me why. We had Gary's permission to show them on Bernd's site, which was done a few years ago.

2. Another fellow by the name of Paul Frenczli also took pretty much the same photos of both the Chekov and the Buran when he was at the same convention. Not long after Gary sent Bernd his pics, Paul sent Chris Spinnler his Chekov pic. However, his photos were of much better quality than Gary's for some reason. If anyone remembered Gary's false colored shot of the Chekov, and compared it to Paul's pic of the same shot, you could clearly see the improvement. Paul allowed Chris to post his Chekov pic on his site.

3. A few months later, Paul sent Chris a better-quality pic of the Buran, like he did with the Chekov. For some reason though, Paul did not give Chris permission to show the pic on the site, as he did with the Chekov. Or maybe Chris asked for permission, & Paul just never got back to him. I don't know. I was sent the pic as well for some reason. I thought it was because Paul decided to let people see the pic by email instead of on a website where everyone could see it. But later I would find out that that wasn't the case.

4. Years go by, and things are forgotten.

5. Once the BoBW DVD comes out & Starship Millenium makes new screencaps, we all get to see the wrecked ships clearer than ever. It's at this time that I find out that no one else had ever seen the Buran pic Paul gave us. Chris tries to contact Paul to see if he can get the guy's permission to show the pic, but AFAIK, he hasn't gotten a response.

6. The clearer pic of the Buran is quite small, and really doesn't show any more detail than the false-color pic did. The most clear thing you can see is that the secondary hull isn't the angular piece that we all thought it was. I really don't know how to describe it; honestly, to me it looks like a flat pillow with a row of lights running down the side. I made a quick pencil drawing of the ship once. I'll upload it here on my next post. As for showing the actual photo, let me email Chris to see where he's gotten with contacting Paul.

Here's my (very quick & rough) drawing of the Buran:

http://lobotomy.pleh.net/~flareupload/uploads/341/challenger.jpg

I think I made the saucer a bit thicker than it really is, but it does come from the two Ent-D saucer tops left over from the Cheyenne model. I drew the lower pylon based on what I saw in the pic (it's too small to make out any good detail). The top of the saucer had two phaser strips, not just one. I couldn't see enough of the underneath of the saucer to see if it was the same way. I also couldn't see the registry because of the angle of the model.

Thank you for the facts, Dukkie. As I'm sure it did to many, this whole thing came as a big surprise to me. I hope you can get the pic "released" at some point in the near future.
