Rob Bonchune has continued posting on the HobbyTalk forums and has brought forth some more CGI renders for our enjoyment. Here are five images he posted of the Constitution-class U.S.S. Defiant from the ENT "In a Mirror, Darkly" two-parter!

The second shot shows the aztec pattern that was added to the ship more clearly than seen in the episode. Bonchune further revealed that the aft torpedoes were supposed to have come from "the little round port right betwen the impulses engines" but added that though "everyone agreed [...] apparently if you frame by frame it, they actually come from the hangar bay phaser mounts. Someone in the chain etiher decided against it or didn't know. Even one of the writers was surprised it hadn't been done as discussed."

In another thread, relating to a wholly other Defiant, Bonchune provided this little jewel:

quote:
Here's a plaque I forgot I had and found while cleaning my place up! It was the original bridge plaque for the NX Defiant before the whole NX debacle. Originally intended to be a Valiant class starship. My Art Department buddy Doug Drexler had given me this a few years ago. I figured the ones who love that kind of trivia would get a kick out of it!

I'm not sure it makes sense to have a torpedo launcher resting right in the middle of the engines like that. I mean, that's, like, some complicated plumbing.

It still amuses me that the flattest ship in Starfleet has a plaque quote about a tall ship.

Bonchune stated that the reasoning was to avoid adding an extra hole somewhere that wasn't on the original, given the fact that the script specifically required aft torpedoes. But yeah.

I'm not putting forth any other more plausible places to put it, note.

Though, they could have put it in the neck somewhere, and I wouldn't have complained too much, hole or no hole.

Well, the phaser turrets astern are "extra not in the original" at least. And there are none to be seen on the saucer topside, while shadows prevent seeing whether there are turrets on saucer bottom. But we can still easily argue that these turrets are retractable, and that only the stern ones are extended in these pictures.

Torpedo tubes are no doubt also covered by "gunports". The likeliest location for the aft one would now be somewhere between the pylons.

Impulse glow is also extra; I'd have liked to see warp glow as well, though. And some running lights on the nacelle aft ends, to mark the extremities of the vessel a bit better. At least the fourth saucertop square is fixed and lit on this ship, suggesting the Chief Engineer has more time in his or her hands than Scotty did...
