Seeing how Flare seems to be in desperate need of some new non-spam discussions, I figured I'd show off a little project I've been working on.

Way back in that "Series ?" miniseries, Krenim decided to pull a "Star Wars" ripoff joke to set up the story. At the time, simple HTML just meant a narrow margin to (poorly) replicate the opening scroll effect.

A while back, the folks working on the rendering engine for Safari started adding some CSS-based animation effects. One intrepid designer took that foundation and implemented the "Star Wars" crawl in HTML.

I realized it was fine fodder for my own experimentation. After much hacking and a few false starts, I finally finished making a special "Series ?" version of the intro.

The only catch? Right now it only works with Safari 5 (for either Mac or Windows). Maybe someday it'll work in other browsers.

PS: Hey Krenim, are we ever going to see more "Series ?" episodes? Or is that particular dead horse finally "all dead" instead of "mostly dead"?

Shameless plug update: For those of you who didn't feel like installing Safari just to check this out, it now works with the latest version of Google Chrome, too.

As a little sidebar to Series ?, a recent novel deals with the DTI and gives some backstory to the Temporal Cold War. Also, FutureGuy is found and arrested, and Ducane's first name is given as Juel. Not that anyone cares. But just sayin'.

Series ? is not all dead yet. I'm actually getting close to finishing "Dead Horse", but I must admit, I just haven't had much time or energy to work on the series since starting a full time job. [Frown]

While I'm surprised that somebody else besides me bothered to give Ducane a first name, I'm not surprised that its not Patrick. But... Juel? Really?

And as for Future Guy... I went and looked up the info from that novel, and that explanation makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Whenever I finally get around to revealing Future Guy's identity in Series ?, it will still make absolutely no sense, but in a way that makes perfect sense. [Wink]

Well, I guess it makes sense in a way to have him be someone completely unknown and unconnected to anyone. Having him be, oh, I don't know Arne Darvin's great^n-grand nephew or something would a bit of a stretch.

A Temporal Cold War novel sounds like a dumb idea. But it reminded me of this joke image that I saved a while back...

EDIT: I just found the Memory Beta entry on the book (hadn't heard about it before), and the teaser description reads a lot like some twisted Law & Order story, anyway. Weird.

I think the novel states Future Guy is some alien called an Omegan. So says rich uncle Memory Beta.
