I'm taking a trip to Seattle and Portland next February to travel and scope out the area for relocation (Yes, I'm getting out of LA!). Does anybody want to meet up?? Right now I'm looking at Feb 9-12 in Seattle and 13-16 in Portland.

(Simon, you must come. You have no choice.)

East coast is where it's at. (Just sayin').

I don't like the weather.

I don't know how you live without seasons.

And constant rain turns you on?

I have never lived with defined seasons, so meh. Not fond of snow either.

I do like upstate New York, though it's not a place I can move to right now. And the Pacific Northwest is just as green.

Yep, I like rain [Big Grin] . I'm sick of the desert and yellow-brown landscapes. It rained twice here in the last two months, and before that the last rain was in FEBRUARY. Gimme rain and clouds and greenery!

Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :

Oh, well then come to State College. In the winter months we get like 45% more rain than the PacNorWest.

Whenever we get past trying to get her to our own corners of creation...

I'm here and pretty much always available to meet up. Just say where and when. [Big Grin]

Great, Peregrinus. I'll pm you when my plans are finalized.

Nobody comes to see me anymore. . . *sob*

Lee, I've been trying to hie myself to the U.K. since forever. I've got family to look up and genealogical research to do, if nothing else. I promise when I finally get a plane ticket, you will be among the first to know. [Smile]

YAY! Lemme know what you want to do, where you want to go, or what you want to see. I make a great docent. THis is where I grew up, after all. And if you're looking at relocating, I can show you neighbourhoods and tell you about them and the greater surroundings. [Smile]

Show you some good places to shop, eat, and hang out, too. [Big Grin]

You know, the sorts of places I'd take Kurt, if he'd ever be up here long enough. [Razz]

I don't know why I haven't been back to England...I miss it. It's just never been the right time, and now it's expensive due to the exchange rate . I'd probably go and live there for a while if not for immigration hassles. I loved upstate NY because it reminds me so much of the English countryside.

Jonah:
Where in PNW are you exactly? Vancouver? If not, why do you spell neighbourhood with a U? LOL

I'm mainly looking at Seattle and Portland, but I'm leaning toward Portland because it feels like a small town but still has the conveniences of a large city. Anyway, it's not set in stone yet and we'll see when I get there.

Fucking Lefties...

I'm left-handed, too, Shik. [Razz]

I've written things for Games Workshop, which is based in England, and by now it's habit to use the "correct" British spelling of most things. I live right across from Seattle on Bainbridge Island.

It's just occurred to me, anyone heard from Nimmy lately? We were going to meet up last year, but since it transpired it was the main reason he was coming over, I thought that was a bit daft, I'm really not that interesting in real life (Diane will confirm this). We'll have to sort something out soon, my family's phased withdrawal from southern England is nearly complete which means no chance of meeting next time he's in Brighton.

Lee makes the best darn curry outside of an Indian restaurant, which is all that matters.

Well, I'm still here in Seattle, so I'd be up for meetupness.

OK, my plane ticket is purchased and I'm set for Feb 9-12 in Seattle and 13-16 in Portland. I think it'll be easier if you guys can pm me your email addresses and we'll set something up by email.

Done.

Now that I have more faith in my ability to navigate over there without plunging into the chilly depths of the Sound (nevermind the time I was aiming for Redmond and landed at Safeco Field), I am all for this. Also I have a new car. Well, newer. Less likely to catastrophically fail, anyway.

You guys should all come here.
It's a temperate 74 degrees with a slight breeze.
That's practicaly "jacket weather" for south florida!

Besides, you'll be here for whatever the next big scandal/headline is- we're due for something suitably embarassing at a national level....any day now.

I'm in Portland. I've hung round here for years off and on and have never, ever met a Flareite face to face so drop on by.

We just moved here last spring so we still have the "moving to Portland" scoop too. Lived in Seattle ages ago, but hardly know my way around these days.

So I got to meet up with Jonah and Charles in Seattle for lunch (Simon was MIA due to snow), and Jonah showed me around Seattle and Bainbridge Island for three days. Jonah is a walking encyclopedia of Seattle history (among other things) and was a great tour guide.

Here's a picture of the three of us.

I also met up with Toadkiller in Portland. Had dinner at his house and met his wife Alexis, the kids, and the cat and dog. He has a beautiful family and his daughter Morgan was the cutest thing EVER [Big Grin] .

The temps hit 0 C yesterday, that's practically t-shirt weather!

Where do you live, Iceland?

Posted by Fabrux (Member # 71) on :

Actually, it is rather amusing when you think about it. We go all winter with low low temperatures and then when it hits 0, we're all running around in t-shirts! Then, of course, in the summer, when it gets below 10 the jackets come back out...

There was a comedian on Comedy Central the other night. Very droll, I liked him. [Smile] They were up in New England, and he had to walk his dog and he looked on the thermometer to see how cold it was, and it was 0. Farenheit.

Wife: "What's the temperature?"
Him: "There isn't one."

[Big Grin]

Ron White. One of my favorites, although, you just can't beat George Carlin.
