. . . passed away Monday, May 4th, from a secondary infection related to suddenly-discovered cancer, as his brother Ian has shared on the DITL.org forum. He was 50.
I don't know that he was ever a member here, but he was certainly part of the Trek tech community at large, his site being one of the largest on the topic.

I only read today that Graham passed away and it comes as a shock. I haven't been in contact with him for a long time, but DITL and EAS have been on a parallel course for incredible 22 years now. I will never forget the conversations (well, and also the competition ;-)) with him. My deep condolences go to his family and especially to his brother Ian Kennedy (who has been working hard to keep the site running on the technical side).

It was a shock, indeed. It was a strange feeling on a personal level, beyond the surprise and sense of well-wishing for his soul and family.
Due to various factors I am well aware of my own mortality, and, like many, my circle of friends and acquaintances includes cancer and untimely death. However, in a strange way, despite the ocean separating us, what differences of lifestyle I know about, and the not-as-great-as-I-might-like-to-imagine age difference, his sudden passing struck a bit "closer to home" than I might have expected -- perhaps in a "there but for the grace..." way, I'm not sure.
In any case, while the context of the announcement suggests he was probably still in the shock phase of the cancer diagnosis and likely thought the infection the first of many bumps in the road ahead, I would wager he was facing the future with his sense of humor intact and his upper lip at suitable stiffness. We should all meet the end so well.
