..... or "Mohammad" or whatever.

http://www.thestar.com/News/World/article/281366

I know (at least not personally) two people with such names and they are Muslim. Perhaps they should be executed as well for having names that "shame the prophet".

Here, if some person were to name themselves "Jesus Christ", not only can such a name be taken legally here, everyone else would assume the person is a fruitcake.

"Gibbons was arrested Sunday after another staff member at the school complained that she had allowed her 7-year-old students to name a teddy bear Muhammad. Giving the name of the Muslim prophet to an animal or a toy could be considered insulting."

Okay, they want to kill the teacher, but her (presumably Muslim) were the ones who named it? Personally, I wouldn't know that it was an insult, and I'm not sure the teacher did either. It sounds like a serious overreaction, and there's probably other factors in this whole situation that they're not reporting.

BTW, I knew a guy in high school name Mohammed Mohammed. Also, many Spanish-speaking people have the name "Jesus".

I assume religious fanatics, of any ilk, are fruitcakes.

What makes it all the more stupid is the fact that one news report I saw had Sudanese citizens stating they had no problem with what the teacher did, most not even caring. So what's the big deal?

The fanatics.

isn't most religions based on Hypocrisy?

-Or-

All religion secretly worships Cyric of FR fame?

think she outta sell the bear on E-bay or, better, give the bear to a Online Porn site, and get some phat chick to shite on the bear. think that would rile up the Hypocritic Hornet's nest?

What's been amusing have been reports in the tabloid press about the kid who actually owns the bear. The irony is the kid's name is Mohammed... [Roll Eyes]

KILL HIM!!! KILL HIM NOW!!!! BLASPHEMY!!!

Well, from the racism and Muslim supremacy usually exhibited by conservative Islamic groups and governments, they probably only feel it's an insult if a non-Muslim, especially a non-racially-Middle-Eastern, does it. So if it had been a Muslim teacher it would probably have been fine.

Every time something like this happens, I just keep thinking back to the scene with the witch and the mob from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." [Roll Eyes]

Yes. One of the top 50 funniest lines ever: A polite "We have found a witch; may we burn her?"

It's a stitch-up. If she'd actually said, on receipt of the vote results, "No, dears, we can't call the teddy Muhamad, it'd offend someone" then likely the very same parents who then raised the complaint about her showing comtempt for Islam by letting them call it that would be complaining about her discriminating against Islam by NOT letting them call the bear that!

Blue Peter? There's a dirty joke in there somewhere.

There's also a question as to how it relates to the current thread [Wink] I guess there's a loose association, what with the voting and the naming and the having an issue with the voting and the naming.

I can't find the news story that I read that stressed this angle (I think it was from the BBC), but the gist was that the uproar/outrage over this has relatively little to do with what the people in and around the school think, and more with Sudan looking for good press among more radical Islamic circles.

Essentially, the long-running and well-respected BBC children's TV show Blue Peter had a vote to name a new pet on the show. It was felt by the producers that the winning name, Cookie, had certain connotations and suggested a concerted campaign of voting by the more mischievous elements of their audience (the students who watch to lust after Konnie Huq, for instance). So they chose somehting else. So far, no-one has declared a fatwa against them for it.

Is it wrong that the first "cookie" I thought of was of the browsing variety? I wasn't sure what Blue Peter was about, thought it might be a tech show or something...

It is essentially a magazine programme for kids. The presenters are young and fit, and go all over the world doing exciting things. There are arts'n'crafts segments.

So, just because they lust after some girl their votes do not count. Sounds like Florida to me.

Konnie Huq, meooooooow!!!

Ah, but the irony is that they wanted to charge the teacher with "religous hatred".
talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
Particularly in Sudan, for fuck's sake.

So....is Cookie a british slang I don't know about? I don't know of any 'connotations' that would be seen as mischivi...I can't spell that word, I'm not going to try. Anyway, I'll have to google image search for this so called Konnie Huq.

You've never heard of the use of cookie for vayjayjay? Or whatever other pet terms are out there for a vagina.

Posted by Daniel Butler (Member # 1689) on :

No, I honestly haven't.

Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :

So, saying 'Konnie Hugs loves to pet Cookie' could have dire ramifications?

Posted by Fabrux (Member # 71) on :

Pretty much.

I did all for the nookie, c'mon, the nookie, c'mon, so you can take that cookie and stick it up your yeah...
