ok I'm pretty sure this is an old sci-fi movie, I am desperate for the title although I don't remember much, it might have been a tv only kind of thing. but here's what I can remember.

It involves aliens that come to earth and they start taking people from this town, and this little boy sees them, the aliens go to people's houses while they are asleep and kind of take their life force and form it into a glowing sphere, they then take these spheres back to their ship, I think the boy communicated with his grandfather whom had become a sphere.

Xentrick: the Internet Movie database page doesn't sound right for the movie I am looking for, are you sure that is the title? I'll go check it out later this week. just found some more info I am pretty sure that strange invaders is not the movie I am looking for although it does look pretty neat.

Was there a hispanic man in it as a sherriff? Because I caught a blurp of a movie here on Space that fits the description, and it had a hispanic man as a sheriff.

I've been checking out the TV guide, but there's no mention of the title. Although, IIRC, I may have heard "Door...something something".

I know this doesn't help, but it might jog a memory.
