*thinks hard*
*devilish smile forms on mouth*

I have one now. 25 Yes/No questions.
Begin!

"No way man!
I've served my time in hell, and I ain't going back...
Not without a fight!"

Can it fit in the TOS movie space dock?

Since this is 25 questions, I assume it's with the new rules. Correct?

Question: Is it now, or has it ever been alive?

You are wise, witty, and wonderful, but you spend far too much time reading this sort of trash.

Posted by Montgomery (Member # 23) on :

Yes it would fit in a spacedock.
Yes it is alive

23 to go.

"No way man!
I've served my time in hell, and I ain't going back...
Not without a fight!"

Was it first seen in a modern Trek - i.e. TNG, DS9 or Voyager, Generations, FC or Insurrection?

Is it humanoid?

What I have in mind dates from pre-TNG.
It is not humanoid.

21 to go.

I've served my time in hell, and I ain't going back...
Not without a fight!"

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Now, wait... When you say "pre-TNG", do you mean Trek or real-world? Bear in mind that, real-world, ST5 and ST6 overlap TNG. So, in other words, do you mean it's something that aired pre-1987, or something that took place pre-2364?

Yes.

Oh, alright then, since I expect someone will get it pretty quickly anyway. You could have played this game and discussed this particular Species/Starship/Anomaly before 1987.

Another question down.

------------------
"No way man!
I've served my time in hell, and I ain't going back...
Not without a fight!"

OK, alive, not humanoid, and from TOS or one of the first four movies. Or maybe TAS. And smaller than spacedock. That eliminates starship and anomaly. Non-humanoid life-form from that time period that isn't gigantically huge. Well, it's not that amoeba. Too big.

Question: Is it an energy being?

Horta and Companion are the only two that immediately come to mind. And then there's that cloud from "Obsession". 'Course, I don't know my TAS that well.

I believe that was called the "dikronium cloud creature". And the Horta was the first thing that came to my mind, too.

Hmmmm People are throwing in suggestions masquerading as thinking aloud in the hopes I shall let slip extra info. Naughty Naughty!

You ask if it is an "energy being" This is rather a vague description, so I shall attempt to be specific in my answer. The life-form I am thinking of is not a "field of energy" which bizarrely is alive. It is composed of matter.

You now have... 19 questions!

could you put it in a backpack/knapsack/stachel thingy?

It just hit me: V'ger was alive, in a sense. The probe itself would fit everything, too.

Question: was it from TOS? Meaning, did it appear in the show that aired from '66 to '69?

Question: is it natural?

You are wise, witty, and wonderful, but you spend far too much time reading this sort of trash.

Omega, V'ger wouldn't fit in a spacedock though.

It would if you only count the Voyager 6 probe itself. The rest of the cloud was it's ship, effectively. If you count the ship, it wouldn't fit inside the orbit of Jupiter.

The cloud disappeared when is came closer to Earth.
The cloud was 82 AU's in diameter (1 AU = the distance from Earth to the Sun). The ship itself was a whole lot smaller than that, but nonetheless about 100 kilometers long (Kirk ordered to 'skim' the surface at 500 meters for 100 kilometers, and it appeared that they went all the way through to the back of the ship).

Q19: Depends how big your backpack is, but I belive I would be correct in saying yes, you could stuff it in a suitably sized backpack. Why you would wish to is a question.

Q18: The life-form originates from TOS, yes.

Q17: Is it natural? Hell I ask myself that every day. But everybody's at it and I guess the majority carries a certain legitima-
Oh sorry, the life form.
Yes, it is "natural".

16 questions remain.
I remain confident someone will guess it!

Does it appear in DS9 also?

Ach, TRIBBLES! I should have thought of that.

Is it a tribble?

Omega didn't *really* ask it as a question...

I also thought of tribbles back at question 19, but I wasn't sure about wasting the question on everyone else...

Was going to say Tribbles - but I thought the back pack question might be broader incase it was something from TAS!

Not a tribble. So there! :P
And it has not been mentioned in Ds9, nor anywhere but TOS for that matter. oops! Clues!

Is it one of those dog things from "The Enemy Within"?

Well, a horta wouldn't fit in a backpack, so...

Is it sentient?

If I understand the rules correctly, it could be a plant, or even a virus...

Cry "Havoc!" It's the Denevan parasites from "Operation: Annhilate!"

Me too, I was about to say Neural Parasites...

Could it be denevian slime devils? - although they were seen on the school board in DS9...

Q13: I assume it's fairly sentient, this was never discussed to any great extent! Don't expect to have a conversation with one though...

It ain't a neural parasite.

BUT

DING!
Andrew R is close enough with his answer!
The creature in question is a Denebian Slime Devil as mentioned in "The Trouble With Tribbles" and illustarted as a rather bizarre red crouching creature in Shane Johnston's "Worlds of the Federation"

Ah, the mantle is passed once more...

Waitaminute... The Denebian slime devil line was in "Trials and Tribble-ations", also, meaning that they were mentioned in DS9. Also, since the picture came from a book, it's not canon, so there's no way to know if one could fit in a backpack.

I wish somebody would do one of these contests where the clues are actually valid... :-)
