This was not what I was expecting it to be, based on the trailer from last week, but I mean that in a good way. I really enjoyed this episode.
Book gets a distress call from his "brother" on his homeworld, which is having Emerald Chain trouble. Turns out Osyraa wants Ryn (the Andorian from a few episodes ago) and knows he's with Book. Our heroes stop Osyraa and Ryn reveals that the Emerald Chain is almost out of dilithium.
Georgiou is in rare form this episode. She also got the most hilarious moment while being scanned. "I'm gonna need you to count backwards from ten." "What you need is not importzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..." Also, Michelle Yeoh in a white catsuit. Yum. But yeah, she's dying. Of what, we still don't know.
"Uh, no. Try again." You go, Tilly!
Is it just me, or are we moving towards Stamets and Culber adopting Adira?
Detmer seems to make good progress in dealing with her PTSD this episode during the fight with Osyraa.
We get a little progress towards solving the mystery of the Burn. The Disco crew have triangulated the origin, and sure enough, that mysterious music comes back into play. After doing a technobabble filter thingy, we find that there's a Starfleet distress signal being broadcast from that location.
Looks like next week we get a Georgiou-centric episode along with the return of David Cronenberg!

I have little to add to the above.
• The Star Wars/Babylon 5 style strafing run was a little hokey but it was nice to see Detmer get some (literal) hands-on time. Also, how the fuck could Book see his ship?
• The "I'm a they, not a she" scene....wasn't acting. It came off as Blu reliving many a conversation & sort of making this all-call declaration to the world. I think Stamets' smaile was more Anthony Tapp's, & I think the protectiveness he & Wilson Cruz display towards both actor & character are real feels.
• I agree onb the Tilly bit.
• Emerald Chain isn't hitting the mark with me as bad guys; it feels super forced. Maybe that's because Janet Kidder doesn't really project menace. Perhaps they're trying to show a more casual "banality of evil" things as the Nazis had, or they're worried about just creating green!Georgiou, but honestly I got more sense of menace from Mom in Futurama.
• Book's nephew's name is Leto! Does this mean tranceworms are like sandworms?
• Saru's catchphrase auditions. The show's Canadian, & there's been a little crossover with Letterkenny, so I wouldn't mind him testing out either "Pitter patter!" or "Fucking get after it, then!"
Five weeks left, and the next two are the season's obligatory two-parter. No real danger, though, because we know the Pippa-driven S31 series is still in the pipe.

The bridge crew’s reactions to Saru trying in his catchphrase was so hilariously heartwarming. It’s like everyone knew what he was doing and just rolled with it, just mulling it over and reacting quietly.
I’m also glad they got something positive for Detmer to do. Though I’m a bit puzzled at how they could conceivably think that the Orions would buy the “rogue officer” excuse in the slightest. Something tells me that Admiral Vance would be pissed (or more pissed), if it weren’t for the fact that we now know Emerald Chain’s offensive is one of desperation.
Also, not sure why it hasn’t occurred with any of the other Orions, but Ossaya’s appearance only made me think of the Wicked Witch of the West from Once Upon a Time... and that’s not a good thing. Even my parents, who don’t generally comment on such details, pointed out this week how terrible the makeup for the Andorians and Orions has been.
...Oh, and Ossaya really isn’t a very smart villain. Between giving her adversary time to figure out how to foil her demands, and getting rid of a henchman who knew too much by... putting him in a salvage camp with a bunch of other people instead of killing him? She seems to be following the Evil Overlord List a little too closely.

The plot holes in this episode were so glaring. Ryn's big secret about the Wicked Witch's crime syndiate was a joke. Why didn't she simply kill him and why did he keep his mouth shut even when he wasn't in the slave camp any longer?
The rogue officer plot was another dumb idea. Did they really think that was credible and even if it was that the Chain would care at all for such legal technicalities?
Since they're still dependent on warp travel, I guess it makes sense for the writers to still use photon torpedoes.
The whole catchphrase-thing is better suited for Lower Decks.
A distress signal from a Federation starship? I guess it's pretty obvious which ship it's going to be.
I'm not a fan of "they/them". It just sounds odd. Couldn't they have come up with something better in the future?

Yeah, we totally have *an* Enterprise in the pipeline. But the rest of the pieces aren’t aligned. Why is it where it is? What does it have to do with the Burn? How/why has its distress beacon been transformed into music - that people all over the galaxy have as an earworm?
Q? Trelane? Organians? The Borg? The Boy? I bet it is Wesley.

Well, there’s really only two options. It’s either going to be the Enterprise-M or whatnot, to ape the end of season 1, or it’s going to be the Discovery from the Calypso Short Trek, to shoehorn that episode into this continuity somehow. Most likely the latter.
