LD delivers another pleasant episode, basically an hommage to TNG episodes "The Most Toys" and "Second Chances".

It was clear that Boimler at some point would rejoin the Cerritos crew but the writer's solution was quite creative.

My favourite jokes were the giant Spock skeleton (albeit a bit creepy) and the corn/rank pip retcon.

The starship/space scenes in LD although animated look so much better than the Christmas tree CGI of DIS.

Starships:
2 Titan shuttles: Coltrane & Gillespie

Riker has a golden Oberth-class USS Pegasus model in his ready room.

Titan conference room also has golden models of previous Titans. The rocket, an early Jefferies concept, Loknar class, Luna class.

Boimler got two lines that seemed laser-focused on razzing Discovery. (I enjoy watching Disco, it’s just not my favorite.)

“Uh… I’m sorry, I gotta be honest. I didn’t join Starfleet to get in phaser fights. I signed up to explore, to be out in space making new discoveries and peaceful diplomatic solutions. That’s boldly going, and you know what? I’d *love* to be in a string quartet. I love that when Riker was on the Enterprise he was out there jamming on trombone and catching love disease and acting in plays and meeting his identical transporter clone Thomas. This stuff may not seem as cool as what you guys do, but it’s Starfleet all the way.”

And also…

“It was a bunch of complex characters thrown into heavily serialized battles, which always ended in mind-blowing twists that made me question the basic tenets of my reality.”

So true! [Big Grin]

And the other crew’s reaction to Boimler’s speech was pretty awesome.

Kayshon is the perfect addition for a show like LD, he’s a walking shoutout to one of TNG’s best and most popular (and now meme-endorsed) episodes. Tamarian pickup lines, anyone?

William Boimler, now. I’m calling bullshit on this. It’s a trick by the Pakleds or their as-yet-unknown sponsors. Of all the times and places for a unique transporter accident to re-occur, it happens in the presence of the previous victim? Who’s therefore predisposed to feel sympathy and maybe not question it too much?

Plus the divergence between the two Boimlers is immediate and pronounced. Will and Tom were different by virtue of eight years of wildly divergent experiences. Within minutes, one Boimler is acting in a way completely different to how the single source Boimler was shortly before.

And sending one back to where he came, demoted? That makes no sense. Tom was a Lt. and stayed one and got a new posting at that grade. Both Boimlers were still Lt. jgs and should stay as that. It’s a blatant and clumsy attempt to return to the series concept’s status quo.

That’s an interesting point. *Any* situation where an ally miraculously escapes alone from someplace after their compatriots have left is suspicious. Even if it’s the Pakleds. I didn’t think too much into it because Boimler is such a butt kisser anyway. I do think the split decision is believable, because Boimler pre-split was obviously both excited and terrified to be on the Titan. But if there’s something more going on there… that could be interesting.

The demotion part is really stupid, I agree, even it’s still in line with the workplace comedy of the show. But there’s no good in-universe justification for it. What was he demoted *for*? Bad quarterly review? We all “knew” Boimler would end up back where he started, so I kinda ignored it, but it’s still a cop-out in my book. And rather out of character for Riker and Starfleet.

Except ... that Will Riker was promoted for his actions, IIRC, (from lieutenant to lieutenant commander) remaining behind so long to ensure the successful evacuation ... so shouldn't that have been a promotion Tom Riker received as well? After all, it was just a quirk of fate he didn't materialize on the Potemkin instead of Will.

Also: I'm kind of hoping LD goes the Defense Against the Dark Arts route and gives us a new security chief every season.
