Good Morning, Forumites

If you've been to the Flameboard lately, you'll find that several topics > 150 posts have been locked. This is due to a rather serious bug in the forums. Our good leader Charles is on the case and is trying his darned best to squash this pesky bug.

The bug affects topics with a large number of posts. These posts are usually found in the Flameboard, OL, Starships and Tech, and the Forum Contests.

We'd like to ask your cooperation with regards to this bug. Temporary measures will be made until this bug is fixed. We'd like to ask you to notify the appropriate mod/admin if you see any thread approaching the 150 post mark. The thread will then be closed, and members are permitted to start a new one (unless directed otherwise by Mod/Admin).

Hopefully this bug will be dealt with before it causes more serious problems.

Muchos Gracias for your cooperation.
Tahna

That's a very interesting bug you've got there.

TLE! I didn't you know you posted here!

The bug is fixed. Enjoy.

You may have fixed that one, but many others are popping up now. Clicking on the page 3 link for the Borg Queen question brings me to page 2; 3 seems to have vanished. Same thing wit hthe Political Compass deal.

Weird shit, Bubba.

Fixed, and fixed.

OK, Charles, I'm going to errr... bug you with this one again. Is there anyway of having this reply box - this one I'm typing in - to not end up off the end of the page... i.e. have the box so its entirely visible - instead of when you get to about 11 lines, having to scroll down? I think there might be too much in this reply page ABOVE the actual box??? Two clicks of the right hand scroll bar gets be down to having the box totally in the screen.

Tanx

Andrew

You might want to try a higher screen resolution. Nothing wrong with the reply message page here.

Funny, normally we get complaints about the box being too SMALL... *L*

What resolution are you at, on what system, in what browser, using what font size?

Posted by Mr. Christopher (Member # 71) on :

I'm running with 1280*1024 pixels on a Windows 2000 Pro system, using IE and 10 pt font.

Oh, wait, you meant Andrew...

Welp, I'm running with 800x640 pixels on a Windows 95 system, using Netscape Communicator 4.73 and 12pt font... what I've been using (except the different versions of NSC) since the old boards in 1997.

I'm at 1280x1024, but my browser windows are at ~800 pixels wide... The Add Reply box is designed to go down all the way to 640x480, so...

12 point font size at 800 x 600 (are you sure you meant 640? 800 x 600 is the common screen size)?

Andrew, mate, you've either got the tiniest monitor ever, or you need glasses. How big's your monitor anyway? Unless it's 15 inch, I'd shuftie up to 1024 x 768. In fact, I'd probably do that anyway. I'm using a laptop here, and 1024 x 769 is fine. And the reply box fits on one screen.

1024x769? Little bit of a Freudian slip there, Liam? :-)

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

No, really, I meant 640... the reply box at a 12 point font should be fine all the way down to 640...

Umm... Just out of curiosity, is this supposed to be popping up at the bottom of the screens?

Yeah.

Oh. Okay.

"2 files were open fil assed"?
Why??? What did they do??? This is terrible!

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

...

That counts calls to OpenFileAsArray and OpenFileAsString, thus OpenFileAs*.

There you go again! I could understand if one would want to save ass, but this is unheard of.

This is what my window shows when I'm in this reply screen.

And about my settings - I only guessed... I'm pretty sure its 800x600 or what ever - where do I confirm/change these settings.

And yes, along with my P133 and Windows 95, I've got a 15 inch monitor...

Quick question, the uploaded files on the flare server can be linked to from anywhere, right? It's like any other place that has pics?

I have recreated on my monitor to the settings you have Andrew. My response is that you've got too many things showing in Netscape that takes up room. These are the things you can do to free up some room in Netscape.
1. Show the Navigational toolbar as text only. It's under Preferences in Appearance.
2. Get rid of the Personal Toolbar. View -> Show -> Personal Toolbar. There's a check mark next to it. Click it to get rid of it.
3. Auto-hide the Windows toolbar, but do keep it on top. Don't worry, as long as it's on top, you can move the mouse over to the toolbar area and the toolbar will pop up. Right-click in a free area on the toolbar and choose properties. Make sure check marks are next to both Auto Hide and Always on Top.

You might want to increase you resolution to 1024 x 768. However if your monitor or video card can't handle it or the text becomes too small then leave it at 800 x 600.

Aha! I thought you meant that, when you had scrolled down, the thing didn't fit.

See, I'm used to scrolling down to get to the reply form, so I thought nothing of it.

Interesting though. I'll take it under advisement...

(In the mean time, reducing the ammount of stuff that NS clutters will be wise - i.e. turning off the text under the back/forward buttons...)

Hmm. That's odd. I don't have to scroll down to hit reply.....

Thanks for the info guys.
Its now just above the bottom of the screen - with autohide on and just pictures for the buttons and no personal toolbar (never used that anyway).

I don't mind autohide but - I'm use to it being there permanently - for time etc.

The reply button is still off screen though... but at least I'm not having to stop mid sentance to move the screen down to see what I'm typing!

Thanks

Tanru... err... Andrew
