UBB 6.1.0 went out to the general public over two weeks ago, with minimal problems.

We are now running the first beta of 6.2.0, which will include a whole bunch of new features.

This update brings updates to the registration system and profile. We've enabled COPPA protection here. In order to register, you now must enter your birth date.

Existing users may also alter your birthdates using your profiles. It's up to you whether you want to make the birth date information public or not.

Please feel free to register test accounts to test the system (just make sure that you note it being a test profile in the profile).

The more bugs ya find, the better.

Hmmm, seems to work just fine

Awesome Charles

Just a question here unworthy of it's own thread: I can't seem to find the Change Password option. Am I blind, or is it gone?

My Profile -> View/Update Profile -> Password

Listed under Member Status, Publicly Displayed Name, and Login Name.

I will be satisfied when I can change my Member Status line without having to beg the Cappsian one.

Yes, it's rather inacurate ... "Always Wrong" would fit you better.

I noticed profiles no longer say when and what was a person's last post. Yet again, a minor nitpick.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

Yeah, that data's there, just no longer displayed. You can click on the "view user post history" link on the profile page to get a list of recent posts instead.

(And user-selected custom titles are unlikely, FYI.)

Made a couple more updates... the date field should now be in a more logical order (using the same order that the rest of the dates on the board use)

Charles, it would be nice if you could put on some sort of Private Message Alert so we know we have PMs without going into the Profile?

Like i.e.: where is says.

Hello, *username* [ log out ] you have X new Private Messages.

Not everyone checks their profile all the time, and the last time I sent someone a PM, I had to send a message via ICQ to let them know they have a PM from me.....

I know. The_Tom sent me a memo, but I didn't find out until a few days later when I just happen to check my profile.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

That's scheduled for 6.3.

Hobbes: Why don't you turn on e-mail notification, then?

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 138) on :

Because the email server I used to sign up here, [email protected] is dead. My real address is Yahoo and it won't let me use it.

Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :

To say nothing of the moronic fact that, when "notified" by email, the entire message text is sent to you, thus negating the purpose of the original message.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

Hobbes - drop me a PM with that email address included, I'll set up an email alias for you so you can switch...

Bug Report, Charles

In Officers lounge, if you go to the second page, some threads on that page are duplicates of the first.

Update-schmupdate!

I'd like to see a member rating ... (number of posts, etc.)

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Um... The number of posts is already there. Click someone's profile.

Posted by The_Tom (Member # 38) on :

...not to mention that front-and-centre member ratings are petty and stupid and the sort of thing they prance about singing about at TrekBBS.

I posted something here, but never mind. It was my browser, even though it didn't seem to be.

I hate the Trek_BBS.

But ... eh, nevermind, I'm inebriated.

Wow, that's a big word.

So's Simon. Or something.

In the old flare version, when you started writing a reply and then clicked back to the thread to check something, your text up until that point was still in the text field if you went ahead to the reply page.
Nowadays your entire message is wiped if you return to your reply field, making for some irritating mistakes.
Since not all thread-pages carry the "Topic Review" feature after a certain number of replies, I think the message memory should be reinstated.

Oh, and I still haven't gotten my home computer back online, so if anyone wants me, use the messaging system.

Methinks the fault lies not in the code, but in your browser.. that still works fine for me.

And if you reaaallly need to go back, click on the link to open the thread in a new window, leaving your text intact?

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

Along those lines, a feature other BBs have that I thought would be annoying, but isn't, is where when you type up your reply, the previous posts in the thread are displayed in reverse order at the bottom of the page. It helpsyou to check that you're replying to the correct person, and it stops you from having 50,000 windows open.

(BTW, Flare is really slow on my uni computers, running Win 2000 and IE5. But then, all web-pages are, so it's probably not your fault.)

Hmm, I'll see if there's something I can do with the browser settings.
And -Mike, I used to do the multi-browser bigamy thingee, and after just a couple of days I ended up replying to the wrong thread like a fuckhead, so now I just copy the text and insert it if I need to.
But it would be nice not to have to, naturally.

Doesn't Flare have that? But only for the first page ... once it goes to page -2- and on, it doesn't.

*checks*

You're right. I never noticed.

Okay, one other thing that has bugged me for years. When you reply to a topic, wouldn't it make more sense to be redirected to the latest page of a topic, rather than the first? That way you can check to see if anyone's posted while you were typing, and it just makes more sense. I am right.

Posted by Malnurtured Snay (Member # 411) on :

Yes, you're right on that. It's annoying getting sent back to the first page instead of, like in that all-encompasing hilariously funny Contest thread, the 57th page.
