Use it.

Find bugs in it.

Help me squish them.

Thank you.

(Yes, I know it shows up without the white border, and no, that's not a bug)

Just tried it in in another Forum, seems to work OK. Just not in this one.

Yeah, something in the authorization code is going wonky, so it's getting a little overzealous in the warnings.

Dear O Mighty Tallest....

Any time I attempt to post anything, I get a script error. I'd copy it down for you, but it'd all noncopyable 'n' shizznit. Perhaps a screencap if need be.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

A screencap would be great, thanks.

Here you go, O mighty Tallest.

I have the same problem as Shik. Take it off, please! I don't want to press that every time!

Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :

You don't HAVE to press it every time, otherwise he'd remove the ordinary "Add Reply" button and add another step to the whole posting procedure, which of course CC is far too nice (and sensible) a person to do. 8)

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

No, I'm talking about pressing the "Script Error" message every time I add a reply!

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

*sigh*

IE is being insanely stupid.

I'll see what I can do.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

Fixed it!

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

One way to find out. I have to post.

It worked! No script error message. Thanks, CC!

Er... okay, I fixed it, but it's broken in another way.

Joy.

5.2, here we come.

Works great on IE6.

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

It works great for me. No problems to report. It also saves a lot of headaches when typing posts using lots of UBB coding and the like.

What is with Liam's font ... ?

He's bending the space near his posts, Jeff. Duh!

Valdemort is with me. You will perish.

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

Get in line, Jeff. You ain't the only one telling me that.

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

Okay, Charles, I found a problem. I typed a really long post for an Officers Lounge thread and clicked on Preview Post to check it out. When the popup appeared, half of the post I had written was missing. It looked like the apostrophe in "don't" screwed it up. The last of my post on preview appeared in preview form as, "...don%2"

I hadn't used and apostrophe earlier in the post; that was the first occurence. The apostrophe changed to a "%2" and ate everything after it. When I pressed Add Reply, though, the post I typed came up perfectly.

This has nothing to do with post preview functions, but I was wondering O mighty Tallest, if it would be possible for you to tweak the PM email notification code so that it doesn't send you the entire PM text in the notification (thus negating the need to check one's PMs)?

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

Siegfried, can you post the URL to that thread so I can look at the post? Thanks.

Shik, I could do that, but I need to use the stock email templates..

Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :

Hm. Ain't dat da BITCH, yo. But it was worth askin'. Don't get NOwhere wit'out askin' da QUEStions.

Here is the link: http://flare.solareclipse.net/cgi2/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=10;t=002240;p=2

It's the really long one near the middle of the page. As I said, it posted fine, but the preview of the post was funky.

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

Is there a limit as to how many lines of the post can be seen on preview? In this thread in the General Sci-Fi Discussion area, I made a moderately long post. When I previewed it, the preview was missing the last two or three lines of the post I had written. And the apostrophes came out all right, too.

If there is some sort of limit to the amount of the post that can be previewed, this could be related to the earlier problem I noted. It looks like I was only able to preview a set amount of my posts.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

It seems to cut off at 950 characters or so. Bizarre.

Posted by MinutiaeMan (Member # 444) on :

I've got something that may or may not be a bug. When I try the post preview, it runs all of the lines together by taking out the returns. Everything's still readable, but it's all blended into one paragraph and gets a little hard to follow.

It could also be browser-specific. I'm using Netscape 4.77.

Posted by Malnurtured Snay (Member # 411) on :

Also, and a bit off topic, why is there an extra line or two when you quote someone? Does using the quote feature automatically add a line?

Actually, I should say space. It's like someone hit "return" a few times too many

I noticed that. All of a sudden a lot of the auto-tags have at leats two spaces between them, and one either side. . .

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

Auto tags?

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

I've noticed the same thing when I'm just using the regular HTML <blockquote> tags. I used to always type a blank line after the </blockquote>, before typing my own words. But now that leaves a double blank line.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

OKay, I've fixed some of the odd spacing issues. The new quote behavior is apparently as designed in the new templates.

<blockquote> is technically not supposed to work as we're using it anyway, so this is a kludge.

For those that get cut-off posts - when you have the problem, check to see if the "show signature" and "disable smilies" checkboxes work still.

If things are cut off and you can turn off smilies or your sig in your post, I'll know where to look...

test

cool it works!

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

I found the cutoff error - it will be corrected in the next upgrade.

Posted by Techguy (Member # 758) on :

Don't you think it would be better to do this without javascript? Just as an additional step, and afterwards you have an option of editing a message or submitting it...

[ December 18, 2001: Message edited by: Techguy ]

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

We tried that, but it involved way, way too much work.

This works without major modifications (i.e. a retrofit) of all the posting functions.

Posted by Techguy (Member # 758) on :

for a 5.47e there used to be a hack that did a similar job... it actually brough up the same reply page with text but had previewed message on top. It wasnt way too complex if I remember. But the current one is fine too.. Well besides thats its js

You see it all when you work in the dorms. And, unfortunately, I know what "shit sex" is. I really wish that my memory came with a delete or repress button...
