Two big changes over the past two weeks and not a soul has noticed either....

I noticed the Search. Very nice. I also noticed that odd font thing, but I don't think thats what you were talking about. So ... ?

There's one more... [Smile]

OH MY GOD -- YOU'VE GOT A NAKED PICTURE OF MIB!!!!

Well, no.

I can't find it. Spare us the suspense, okay? Oh, I know you get off on it, but ...

Version change? From beta 13 to 14? Ultimatebb.cgi is now ultimatebb.php? the message "you have last visited" now appears?

hmmm???? [Big Grin]

If you've added some sort of mind control or a component made of recycled people, I am going to be very displeased

Oh! Masao's now a Member-For-Life!

Although the actual phrasing of his status makes me giggly.

I think it's the "Hop To" scroll bar, but I could be wrong... I don't pay very much attention sometimes [Roll Eyes]

See, I'd noticed the search feature but was unaware that comment upon it was mandatory.

Looks like I'm right about the "Perpetual Member" thing. Am I right in thinking that it's based on a 3-year membership dealie?

Posted by Kosh (Member # 167) on :

You're just so advanced that we can't keep up.

Are you behind Christian's upgrade of Trekbbs?

Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :

It's the beard, I bet. Charles has shaved it off.

UBB code is made from people!

Liz: The "Hop To" box has been there for quite a while. :-)

some one at the Slipstream asked why C was useing UBB instead of vBulliten, and the responce from Administrator Lisa was:
quote:

I think it's generally because one of the UBB developmers is a good friend of Christian's. It makes sense to utilise all our resources ; if we can get an expert to handle the board transfer process we can be a lot more confident about things.

After seeing you post there, I figured it was you. I sent an e-mail to C trying to get him to shut down both boards and reopen with everyone having to reregister, and make them us ip e-mail addresses, keeping the trolls down to 6 usernames at the most. I know at least one who claims to have 200 registered names at Trekbbs.

[Cool]

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

Heh, ya, I'd believe it...

Threads'll make it much easier for him to crack down on the trolls. Well, so will the new policies.

I am SO glad we don't have these problems here...

OK, well I noticed the new search thingy - had a flashing "NEW" icon for a while that caught my attention. Charles, oh Mighty One, please put us out of our misery and tell us what the other thing is!

[Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

PS - the search thingy: could you add "all" to the first option bar? Might be handy . . .

"Perpetual member" does sound vaguely pornographic. Priapism, anyone?

I think it's to alleviate the onus on Simon, so that he doesn't feel so exclusive.

Is that the new thing, or is it the improved, tiny-print, non-repeating 'message edited' notation?

Posted by CaptainMike (Member # 709) on :

or that it truncates the list of page numbers in large threads?

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

Most of the above, and more...

Posted by CaptainMike (Member # 709) on :

I was kind of perturbed when I signed on last week and wires wrapped around my neck, killed my former human body and replaced it with a more efficient android body programmed with AI designed to mimic my former human selves actions. I was more perfect but i have a hard time explaining it to my friends.. i can still feel.. still love.. i can equate anything.. compute i mean.. Christine its me.. its Roger

Proof that CC has borrowed Richard Pryor's source code.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

I noticed the truncated 'page numbers'... maybe it's the lack of 'colour theme days' for the last 3 years!?! St. Patrick's day is coming up... *hint*.

The "Printer Friendly View of this Topic"? What if you don't have any Printer friends!?! ;o)

Andrew

Well, the icon legend is no longer showing the default symbols that I commented on weeks ago. Plus, it looks like that maybe the FAQ was updated a bit.

Posted by Jernau Morat Gurgeh (Member # 318) on :

It wouldn't be that you now get returned to the last page of the topic after posting a reply, would it? Although that has been around for a couple of months, I think. Very useful, though.

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

Say... How long have we been able to hide the Recent Visitors thing?

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

I've GOT IT! The forum is no longer a bulletin board with blackish background and greenish-blue/purple text! ;o)

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

Oh god yes, let's do something for St Patrick's day. Green backgrounds are SO easy to read from. Yes.

Simon's amusing alt-FAQ hasn't gone up, has it? As that would require him to finish it...

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

You could always hide from PNTF....

An evil color scheme is coming up. Fear it.

Like ... how soon are we talking, here?

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

Another change I've noticed is that the profiles don't open in new windows anymore.

Charles: when are you going to kill the suspense and let all know what the major changes are that we seem to be skipping right over?

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

Every time the version number down below increments, there's either a major redesign of the architecture of a component (i.e. rewriting the file locking routines, etc) or an addition of a major component.

Obvioulsy the search is back. There are some minor changes, such as the additional user levels and the forwarding back to the right page after you reply / edit....

There are also some not so minor changes that still go unnoticed, such as the new pagination links, the missing contact us / homepage link down below, and other niftyness.

There are a handful of things I've added but not enabled here... first is polling - I don't think we have a need for it here. It'll be added to the Lounge or somesuch at some point in the future.

The second is user avatars. I do not think the community would mix well with the things. Too much clutter.

"Another change I've noticed is that the profiles don't open in new windows anymore."

*clicks a profile link*

*watches the new window open*

Erm...

Anyway, I'd agree about the avatars. I always thought those things looked kind of silly.

What is an avatar, in this context?

That will be samll pictures, either beside or under your user name, coming soon to the Trekbbs. I've seen them used on ezboards, and chuckie is right, they are clutter.

MissManners has a nice one at the troll kingdom:

Oh, those. I agree, they make the place look messy.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Even though I'm not in favor of them, I would point out that I've usually seen them under a person's name, which at least keeps the left-side column a little narrower.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Is that 'Ignore' option new?

Andrew

Oh, Oh Oh Oh!! (Raises hand)

Perpetual Members!!

Some of us just wont go away.

[Cool]

How does one end up a Perpetual Member, anyways?

Is that one "Secret Stalker?"

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

No, but it's funny. You've got over 2000 posts. Want to have it as your status line?

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

Sure. Hook me up, Tim.

I liked "Secret Stalker" better. [Razz]

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

The next one will be at 8000... "Just Won't Shut The Hell Up!"

Only one person would fall under that one, of course.

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

That being Tim, of course. [Smile]

So we're now Perpetual Members and no longer allowed to have our own Status Line? That Sux. I do like the changes, though.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

No, perpetual members are > senior members, but they haven't selected a title....

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Hi, Charles, I just have a question - I've taken to finally using the instant Graemlins. Just two things about them... how come/why does the cursor have to... jump back to the top of your typing when you add in the Graemlin?

Also, are there any plans for some more graemlins!?!

blink, blink, ellipsis, how you do dat? Use to be you just replaced the "Senior Member" with your new text, but now, there is no way? I miss my old "...in 2012. This time, why not the worst?"

Why do I keep getting pop-up adds using Flare? Not often, but usually right when I open Microsot Internet Explorer (Flare is my home page), a few adds'll pop up -- sometimes after I've been perusing for awhile, too).

"Fuck Mickey Mouse - fuck him in the asshole with a big rubber dick. Then break it off, and beat him with the rest of it. I hope he gets ahole of some tainted cheese ..."

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

I've never had pop-up ads appear on Flare. Does this happen at any other websites you visit? If so, it could be that you accidentally downloaded a spyware problem that automatically pops up ads when you're surfing.

One way to know for certain is to go to www.lavasoftusa.com and download the program called Ad-Aware. What it'll do for you is scan your registry, memory, and hard disk looking for spyware and annoyware programs (for instance, like the annoying Bonzai monkey and Comet Cursor).

There are NO popup ads here, or ads of any sort... as was said, it sounds like you have some spyware installed.

I'm gonna close this topic now.
