It works. Hey great. Now, the world seems a little brighter.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

Mmmmmmmmm, should I be sorry I did this? *L*

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

It would appear as though we can't take a look at stuff that's been uploaded... Oh well.

Posted by CaptainMike (Member # 709) on :

it worked for me

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

Yes, there is no central index... you will be able to view (and delete) stuff you have uploaded to your own area eventually.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

*bump*

Charles, you're a god. Wow!

Er.

*bump!*

It wont let me upload. I told it to upload Vostok Class.jpg and it gives me a screen saying:

Files may only end in: .jpg, .jpeg, .pjpeg, .gif, .png, .txt, .html, and .zip.

It may possibly be because all my JPEGs are associated with the Image Expert Picture Viewer program...

Try naming it without the space. Spaces = not legal characters. [Razz]

I get the same error message:

Files may only end in: .jpg, .jpeg, .pjpeg, .gif, .png, .txt, .html, and .zip.

There are no spaces in any of the directories, etc or the filename itself:

Septillion:Documents:Our_Place_In_The_Shadows:OPITS_SiteMk6:images:ships:HC-Cutaway2.jpg
, but there are colons (It is because I use the Mac, huh?) [Frown]

Gah, Macs!

Okay, try it now... I am now letting colons through.

What I was gonna post was 10x worse...

"Macs and their damned colons!"

Posted by 359mph (Member # 37) on :

Same thing happened. VostokClass.jpg cannot be uploaded.

Corsair.gif WILL upload though...

Zip the file and mail it to me please - [email protected]...

Posted by 359mph (Member # 37) on :

Well it wasn't exactly something I needed uploaded, I was just doing it to try it out. If you still want it so you can figure out why it doesn't work, then I'll zip it and send it.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

Ya, I want to figure out why it doesn't work...

Posted by Balaam Xumucane (Member # 419) on :

That worked rather beautifully. You are a golden god CC. (Berry smart indexing it by Member #) My Mac's colon twitches with glee.

I read that as Golden Rod [Big Grin]

Posted by Saiyanman Benjita (Member # 122) on :

Whew, Capps is definitely a God.

As for the Colon thing, I'm not touching it.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Especially not if it's got the golden rod in it...

If anyone makes a man train joke, heads will roll.

Posted by Malnurtured Snay (Member # 411) on :

Callie rides the man-train ... ? But, she's a kitten! AND a *she*!

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Well, I don't suppose a she could ride the MT, as such... But she could be the engine.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

You people are fucked up but bloody hilarious! LOL!

Posted by Bernd (Member # 6) on :

It seems I could use such an upload function too. How was it done, and what is the requirement from the part of the webspace provider?

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

First off, your proivder must actually allow file uploads... some have a policy against them, as many programs written to allow uploads are insecure.

In this case, being a programmer ( [Wink] ), I decided to roll my own rather than use a premade script...

Posted by MinutiaeMan (Member # 444) on :

Wow, this is convenient! Thanks. (I just tried it out, and it works on my Mac. Huzzah!)

One question: is there any official limit on how many files are allowed to be uploaded at a time? I presume there's some sort of maximum capacity for the entire upload service directory, also.

Just want to make sure I don't break the system. [Wink]

Well first things first - the service is only for use for files to be posted here at Flare... mainly images.

Use common sense when uploading. Don't upload copyrighted images, etc... things that would get me in trouble. [Smile] Try to keep images under 200k. The server has a couple hundred megs free, and I can easily move it onto a server that has much more free. (And not break the links to boot! [Smile] )

The ability to manage the stuff you've uploaded is coming in the next version, probably late next week or the week after (when I have time to devote to the system)

did you have to introduce this feature? now the UBBs across thw world is going to become chaotic with images!!

(If they aready aren't) [Razz]

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

It's not a UBB feature, I assure you - it's here only on Flare.

Posted by CaptainMike (Member # 709) on :

and BBs all over the world are already cluttered with bullshit.. this is one of the few that has content

Posted by The_Tom (Member # 38) on :

The above is debatable at times.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

I know of no other board out there on which the members can have 25+ page long debates about starships....

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Yes, but think about it. Do you really call that "content"?

Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :

I call it "SAD"

It stands for "starship-associated debate." Honestly. 8)

Posted by Nim Pim (Member # 205) on :

It's a cook-book!!!!

I made three "password-violations" and was called a bozo (better than bum, I suppose) before I remembered the right keys. If you're wondering, Charles.

Posted by Bernd (Member # 6) on :

Maybe I send all the people who would like me to post their starship designs to Flare...?

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

That'd be nice. [Wink]

Just an advisory... attempting to pull an uploaded image into a site outside of Flare will result in... Well... this.

Posted by Malnurtured Snay (Member # 411) on :

ROFLMAO!

Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :

Welcome back.

Posted by Balaam Xumucane (Member # 419) on :

Nice, CC. Very cool.

Posted by The359 (Member # 37) on :

Hey, Chuckles, its doing that thing again where it says the file needs to end in .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, etc... when I try to upload a JPEG.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

Zip and mail me the file again...

Posted by Saiyanman Benjita (Member # 122) on :

Hey, it works. Cool!

Posted by Ed BWC (Member # 818) on :

Uh, Charles?

Flare Upload works great until I hit 'Upload'(or whatver the key is to upload your file) and then it says Software Error. Is this a whole network thing or just me or what?

Posted by CaptainMike (Member # 709) on :

hmm seeing as the rest of us figured it out fine and have been using it for a while, its probably just you.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

How about giving me the exact error message.

Posted by Ed BWC (Member # 818) on :

Software error:
Permission denied at uploader.cgi line 117.

For help, please send mail to the webmaster ([email protected]), giving this error message and the time and date of the error.

Posted by Dat (Member # 302) on :

It worked for me. I uploaded this file. http://lobotomy.pleh.net/~flareupload/uploads/302/escher2.jpg
Many of you will recognize this as the wallpaper that Simon used on his desktop. But this file is 1024x768 and is around 255kb.

Posted by Ed BWC (Member # 818) on :

Well, it told me to send an email to [email protected]. So I did. Waiting (im)patientley for their reply...

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

Hey, yeah, I got that error once.

Posted by Ed BWC (Member # 818) on :

Works now. Thanks Charles. [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Posted by Ed BWC (Member # 818) on :

The damned thing is back again...

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

Considering I never did anything to fix it in the fisrt place, that's not unexpected.

Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :

CC, if you own the joint, why are you Member #9, instead of 1???

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

When we went from UBB 5.38 to UBB6, I renumbered all the profiles based on the registration date (as they should be). If there were multiple registrations on a single date, the profiles were sorted in alphabetical order. I registered on the first day, and am 9th in alphabetical order.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

This should be fixed now.

Posted by Ed BWC (Member # 818) on :

Lets see...

 -

Yep. It works now. Thanks.

Posted by Dat (Member # 302) on :

But your image looks like crap. Is that intentional?

Posted by Ed BWC (Member # 818) on :

Yes.

Posted by Mucus (Member # 24) on :

Ug, either its a really strange optical illusion, or its animated in a really odd way.
CorelDRAW doesn't seem to recognise its gif format, whatever it is.

Posted by Ed BWC (Member # 818) on :

And its Compuserve Gif, the only kind IrfanView converts to.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

That'll be enough of that, thank you.
