What was the song during the credits?

It's called "Faith of the Heart." It was originally song by Rod Stewart for the Patch Adams soundtrack.

Yup, and contrary to what has been reported, it still *is* sung by Rod Stewart, albeit editted and with a slightly faster tempo.

I wonder if the (alleged) aborted version would have still been soft rock, or classical/operatic...

Absolutely untrue. It's Watson, as per the credits. Evidently, Watson took it upon himself to emulate Rod as closely as he could.

It is definitely Russell Watson singing, not Rod Stewart. The ENT version appears to be sung in a different key and has a new orchestration. The full version will be available on Watson's forthcoming album.

If anybody would consider themselves "spoiled" just by hearing the title of the ENT theme song, I think they need a swift kick in the head...

A Rod Stewart song. For a Science Fiction show. What has the world come to? Is this how the producers thought they could 'hip' the show up? I don't really see a big Rod Stewart (as sung by Russell Watson) fan/Star Trek fan crossover, but maybe it's just me. I'm really hoping they'll get a new song. This one is drek. Easily my least favorite thing abou thte new series, which, incidentally I do like quite a bit...

Ick!

Well, at least (as I understand) Stewart didn't write the song. If it were actually one of his songs, we'd really have a problem...

Rod Stewart song for sci-fi show ... BAD!

Queen song for sci-fi show ... GOOD!

Enterprise really should've grabbed the rights to "Another one Bites the Dust."

*tries to think of a more appropriate Queen song*

*fails*

Although I'd have loved to have heard "Fat-bottomed girls" and T'Pol sauntered by.

*shudders, thinking about the re-musicked '80s release of Metropolis*

"We Are The Champions?" "Hammer To Fall?"

"Bohemian Rhapsody". The goofy bit in the middle.

'Cause they mention Galileo, and he did space stuff. And, um... the "we will not let you go" is like the Vulcans and the humans, and uh... Erm...

Well, it's about as appropriate as what they picked, anyway...

"Breakthrough." From the Miracle album.

I think, although it is a bit non-trek, the theme fits perfectly. Good choice.

I see there are a couple of online petitions to have the song changed. Not to another song, but to a tedious orchestral theme like all the others had. So, it seems people don't want their Trek changing too much. Personally, while I don't like the song, I don't have a problem with the idea of a song in the credits.

I love the opening credits. I didn't think I would, but I think it does a fine job of capturing humanity's demeanor at the point where the series takes place.

Indeed. Learned scholars have hypothesized that the choice of a soft-rock anthem symbolizes America's unwillingness to develop and evolve a more contemporary musical awareness, a clinging to the sounds of yesteryear which provides some security in a changing, uncertain world. Perhaps as the series progresses the theme will gradually transmogrify, coming to embrace such diverse elements as Hip-Hop, Trance, Garage and Extreme Hardcore Deep Vibe Underground Balearic Beats. Word. 8)

All at once?

Hell yes. Ignore that little voise in your head, Nixxy, it's the voice of conservatism. "Ooh no, not that Progressive House, it's far too radical! I want something safe, like Richard Marx. He's like Barry Manilow, but street - in a non-threatening way. . ."

I say, to hell with that voice! Silence it forever! Binge on Cafe del Mar and Nearly God!

However, that other voice in your head which says "kill them all! At last we will be revealed, at last we will have our revenge," don't ignore it, but get help. 8)

I have to agree with Proteus. Even though it is a wide departure from the traditional variation-on-the-Alexander-Courage-theme, I like the song, and I really think it does fit the feeling and emotion of the show. Enterprise is not a traditional Trek, but, it does go back to the original idea. 'Wagon Train to the stars' and I like the new series.
