The first of three prequel comics of "Picard" is available.

Story is set in 2385 before the Hobus supernova.

Admiral Picard is in command of the USS Verity NCC-97000 Odyssey-class (same design as the Enterprise-F in Star Trek Online).

Picard is wearing the admiral's uniform (4 pips) shown at the Star Trek exhibiton. Other Starfleet officers wear similar uniforms without gold braiding.

Geordi (now a full commander) is stationed at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards building ships for the evacuation of Romulan space.

Riker and Troi are still aboard USS Titan.

The Enterprise (probably still E) and her Captain (no name mentioned, presumably Data) are mentioned.

It contradicts the Star Trek (2009) Countdown comics and sort of creates problems with the movie itself. The new comic suggests that they had years for the evacuation, so yes, Spock didn't make it in time to stop the supernova, but Nero's family should have had ample time to evacuate.

Ugh. Bullshit, bullshit, BULLSHIT.

Would take time to empty a whole planetful of people. The idea that Spock was going to fix it might have given false hope, left people feeling complacent?

I doubt it's Data, since one of the premises of STP is that Data is still dead from the events of Nemesis.

Yeah, likely B4 carrying Data’s “katra“. [Wink]

According to the comic they knew 4-5 years in advance.

Well, I got the impression the captain is someone we know. So Worf then?

I would hope it's not Worf. One, that would mean he was promoted to captain while LaForge is still a commander, which doesn't seem right. Two, after the incident in "Change of Heart", Sisko tells Worf he'll likely never be given command. And three, regardless of his appearance in Nemesis, he became the Federation ambassador to the Klingons at the end of DS9.

Of course, none of that would necessarily stop the writers from ignoring it and making him the captain, anyway.

Also, why is Picard commanding a different ship? I can see him taking the promotion to admiral, but wanting to continue commanding the Enterprise. I could even see him deciding he was getting too old and taking the promotion and a desk job. But it seems weird for him to take the promotion and stay in command, but go to a different ship. Unless maybe he did take the desk job, but then got pushed back into starship command for the emergency, and they gave him whatever ship was available?

The latter, I suspect. I guess the hard thing to accept is that he'd give up command for a promotion at all, especially after what Kirk told him. Maybe age caught up with him?

Or maybe his newfound sense of responsibility for the Romulans meant the only way he could work within Starfleet to help them was to take flag rank. Which meant leaving the Enterprise...

But then he needed a ship to work from, took what was available, and rather than having to work through the ship's proper captain, why not just be in command himslf?
