Paramount is slashing streaming series, & Disco fell to the axe: https://trekmovie.com/2023/03/02/breaking-star-trek-discovery-to-conclude-with-season-5/

I’ve seen some Tweets suggesting that many shows seem to be stabilising around four-season runs, five at most. So this would be consistent with that.

Also, 2024 feels a long way off right now. We’re about nine weeks into the year, meaning 43 left; with seven eps of Picard left, then that leaves 36 to fill (assuming no overlaps) with… ten eps of LDS, ten of SNW, and if there is more PDG (is that the agreed acronym?) intended for this year, and as its seasons appear to be longer than the normal ten, that does suggest that even with the oldest of the nuTrek shows not being on at all this year, P+ can still count on one new episode of Star Trek per week throughout 2023?

As for how we feel about this… do we care? Really? It no longer grabs the attention like it did. And with only four seasons so far in five and a half years, with an eventual total of five seasons over six and a half, maybe seven years, it’s hard to really feel like it’s played a central part in my life like it did when we had first TNG and DS9, and then DS9 and VOY, both twice a week for nine months of the year!!

I stopped watching after Season 3, so no.

Memory Alpha uses PRO.

Considering that I thought the show finally grew the beard in Season 4, I'm sad to see it go.

Although I'm not shocked. Recent interviews have asked about the fabled Michelle Yeoh/Section 31 spinoff and the answer has been "Once one of the current series ends." Considering the attention that Yeoh's been getting lately, I'll bet Disco was axed just so Paramount can get its hands on her again.

And we have to wait another year for Disco's final season? WTF?

It’s possible that an Oscar win might open up more tempting opportunities than going back to Trek. That’s a big if though, even after winning an Oscar, she’d still be a middle-aged Malaysian woman, and this IS still Hollywood we’re talking about. And she’ll still have to win - did I mention this is Hollywood we’re taking about? - and we know what the Academy is like. I really do fear a scenario where KHQ gets Supporting Actor as a token while Best White Woman In A Film Nobody’s Actually Seen goes to Blanchett or even Riseborough ffs.
