[Possible spoilers for "The Expanse" and beyond]

Dunno if this has been discussed here yet, but it just occurred to me. The season finale, and what's been revealed of the next season of Enterprise, seems really close to home. Think about it: a huge catastrophe is suffered. Many lives are lost. We know who dunnit, and they're in a far off region full of danger and intrigue. A group of that power's finest is sent on a proactive mission to prevent something like that from happening again.

Familiar, no?

Mark

Hmm... Looks like there's going to be some crew reassignments on board. But what does this "extra muscle" mean? Human soldiers? Andorian shock troops? Tribbles?

I vote for Andorians.

I'm hoping Marines.

y'know... ground pound'n redshirts.

Posted by MinutiaeMan (Member # 444) on :

Marines? Maybe... but they haven't even given us any REGULAR Redshirts yet? No one has yet to die on the NX-01 yet, right? (Daniels doesn't count, reallly.)

Posted by Futurama Guy (Member # 968) on :

Daniels is like a cat...only 8 more till he is really dead...

I vote Vulcan Stormtroopers wearing those silly "Amok Time" helmets or the traditional white, for the first Star Wars/Trek crossover... [Wink]

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

Sounds like it has potential.I'm all for more of an ongoing storyline. However... I fear that this will disrupt the Temporal Cold War storyline. If it doesn't, and the TCW plot is altered to fit this new direction, then it means that the writers never had any firm idea about who's behind the TCW in the first place.

Also... does this mission save earth remind anyone else of the B5 spin off? What was it... Crusade?

I don't know... it could be good. How much you wanna bet that this "change" to T'pol involves her acting somewhat slutty and wearing a uniform that shows bare arms and her mid-drift?

Didn't first rumours say the Klingons attacked Earth in "The Expanse"? In the latest TrekToday reports this has been changed into an "unknown alien probe"..? Something from the "Delphic Expanse" (which possibly is a bit like the Delta Triangle from TAS).

I'd like the alleged new crewmember to be at least of a known race. I mean, what fun is it to have yet another new alien? And an Andorian would be one of the likely choices. And they are one of the major 'friendly' aliens in ENT.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

"Midriff".

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

Yes... my mistake.

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

Seeing as how, unlike many (most, if ratings are anything to go by, alas) viewers I was more or less happy with Enterprise, (Certainly with the premises of it.) I'm kind of wary about tossing in a whole new ongoing plot when we've already got two rather sizable ones going on already.

But, having said that, I wonder if this could have something to do with the aliens from "Silent Enemy." That would be neat.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

As a crew-member - they looked icky! [Smile] Like scary-yucky like! [Smile]

What I object to is adding ANOTHER character (I hope it's only going to be a recurring character like Garak or Rom or Nog.)

We don't get enough time with Mayweather or mmmm Hoshi as it is. And don't get me started about not enough time with Porthos.

AND one more bitch - why war? I want to get back to EXPLORING - this is TREK.

DS9 - went war - fair enough - they explored it legitamately.

Voyager went all explosions etc. and it didn't work.

In a time when war is on the TV 24/7 can we have something peaceful and inspiring for the future!?!

end rant! [Smile]

Andrew

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

Mmmm.... Time with Hoshi. That could be it's own show right there.

I'm all for some action... but it needs to have something to do with the ongoing stories already established. That's all I'll say. And I think it needs to have a point. In other words, they need to have an idea where this is going and how it's going to tie in with the rest of the series, and the other Trek series. I think that's the only way this will dramatically improve the show.

When I read the first spoiler for "The Expanse", immediately 9/11 came to my mind. I only hope it won't develop to yet another endless fight against an invisible enemy.

Loath as I am to disagree with certain posters whose work I greatly admire, the idea of the ship being retrofitted to fight does not strike me as an intrinsically bad idea at all. I mean, weirdo scary aliens aside, there is a war with the Romulans coming up as well, or so we had kind of assumed, and with Enterprise being one of the few ships Earth has that can actually fight somewhere that isn't essentially in Earth orbit, it makes sense for the NX class to be placed right on the frontlines of that conflict or any other, whether the ships are ready for it or not.

Oh, and regarding the banner ad I got when I actually bothered to read the article: LeVar Burton AND Traci Lords? FINALLY.

What the fuck...Xindi??? Can we say "3rd Season bring in a previously unheard of bad guy wannabe scenario" all over again??

Heh, well..."a mysterious probe from space will blast a swath of destruction across North and Central America, causing epic explosions and annihilating everything between Florida and Venezuela,"

I guess that is one way to finally get rid of Castro.... [Big Grin]

Er, also, now I am less pleased. It is like John Carpenter's Star Trek. Or, maybe, Star Trek: The Fog. Because of the skin-inversions, see. Or was that only in that episode of The Simpsons? Which I thought was a reference to The Fog. Adrienne Barbeau can guest star! Star Trek: Swamp Thing!

Even Jolene Blalock's 'T'Pol', as a result of resigning from the Vulcan High Command, "will sport a new cat suit and hairdo next season."

Ugh....first, 3rd Season Dominion wannabes, now 3rd Season 7 of 9 clothing trends....now all they have to do is kill a main character and they have run the gamut.

"...a first for STAR TREK" indeed Mr. Berman...

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Dax also got a different Hair-do in Season 3 DS9 - luckily it didn't last. DS9 also were preparing for a war with a secret enemy - who made a pre-emptive strike on the Federation during the season ender of season 2.

DS9 also had it being outfitted for war.

*sigh*

Berman = Viacom Monkey
"Not seen in Trek Before/I'm exicted about the new directions in the new season" = retooled due to ratings/and or as a directive of the Viacom suits.

Are the Xindi a name-drop that got mangled by the drop? We did have the Xendi in "The Battle", or at least the Xendi Sabu system with a "Xendi starbase" nearby. (I was half expecting yet another Kzinti tie-in here! If any species requires timeline alteration to fit into the Trek continuity, it's these felines...)

In a way, I'm relieved to hear that this kinda continues the Temporal Cold War thing, instead of truly attempting to create some sort of a new theme for the show. And if this only lasts for about 5-6 episodes, then perhaps not much damage will be done.

And yet, we will all watch ENT. But, purely to analyze Berman's firsts and new directions! And T'Pol's 22nd century Vulcan fashion!

So, the "Xindi" attack Earth because they found out about Earth attacking their planet in 400 years time, presumably because of the Temporal Cold War thing.

Does this mean that:
a) this has always been meant to happen, and they just never mentioned it before, or
b) this changes the timeline?

In other episodes, present people altering past events has always resulted in changes to the timeline, and we have never (to my knowledge) had the "me going back in time and doing something actually caused what I remember happening all along" thing.

This could be the beginning of the Big Star Trek Reset Button...

We had something like that in "Parallex" and, er, that other VOY episode that was right next to it, where it turned out that responding to a distress call actually caused something to happen that resulted in time travel that resulted in Voyager going there. Or something. Both episodes made little sense, because neither of them had a way for a loop to get started. AND THEY WERE RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER! Silly writers.

Actually, thinking about it, didn't "Return To Tomorrow" (or whatever that episode with Gary Seven was called) have this situation? The Enterprise went back in time, and it's events actually turned out to have been what happened all along, due to some very ropey checking by Spock.

I tend to avoid icky time travel episodes (especially Voyager ones), but it seems in this case that it could go either way...

I certainly think that a large chunk of America being obliterated is something that someone would have mentioned at some point.

Oh, not this again. How often do you mention specific natural disasters in your every day conversation? In all of Trek, they've mentioned the date of the fonding of the Federation barely once.

Or, if you don't agree, watch every episode of Cheers, and see how many times the Battle of Midway is mentioned. Or Hiroshima.

Xindi == Kzinti? Ship retrofitted for war? T'Pol in a new catsuit with her hair down? What is all this? The mirror universe!?

More like: T'Pol not a part of the High-Council anymore? What next she enters some sort of Vulcan... cocoon and emerges Half-Human!!

Then She'll fall in love with Archer... he'll be told not to go to Q'Onos by the Mysterious future guy! [Smile]

Future Guy!!

Sounds like they are going on the 'when all hell breaks out' theory for saving the series.

Posted by Harry (Member # 265) on :

And more!

Braga: "It's really cool!"

And an interesting quote:

"Sure, we could have made it the Romulans that attacked Earth. But haven't we seen the Romulans for the past 15 years? Do we really just want to keep seeing the Romulans? No. We've got to do new stuff. We've got to keep pushing the boundaries."

Okay. THEN WHY THE HELL DID YOU MAKE A PREQUEL!?!?!?

Is it me, or does it sound really really weird.. let me recap:

- New alien bad guys that look like dinosaurs, insects, humanoids.. sounds like something from Pokemon.
- T'Pol getting a new catsuit
- T'Pol getting a new hairdo
- T'Pol 'showing more skin'
- T'Pol getting it on with Archer
- Suliban!
- Klingons
- Future Guy!
- GUNS GUNS GUNS!
- COMMANDOS!
- MORE GUNS!
- MORE COMMANDOS!

wtf?

To be fair to the "T'Pol showing more skin" line, it really wouldn't be hard. At the moment, all she shows is her face and hands. Sure, her clothes are still pretty much painted on, but do they expect people to download a nude patch for her, or something?

What was I talking about again?

&

Klingons!

I'm sorry, but that seems to be some sort of oxymoron. We don't need more Romulans, but we need more Klingons??!!!!!! We ALREADY have been given information from NUMEROUS episodes that CONFIRMS that the Romulans and Earth had a war.....What are they thinking??? I mean, was there not enough Klingons in TOS, TNG, and DS9?? So what the hell, why not cram even more Klingons down the fans throat in Enterprise!!!!!!????????? [Mad]
