Favourite Character to least favourite Character. (Can include 'minor' characters - not just the 'main seven').

Season 3 may have changed my opinion/order of some of them.

Porthos
Archer*
Phlox
T'Pol*
Hoshi
Reed
Mayweather
Hayes

Honourable Mention: Crewman Cutler
I wish they'd give us a few more crewmembers.

*indicates a jump up the ladder (although I still have a place in my heart for the lovely Hoshi. I hear she gets something to work with in late season 3.

I've just seen "Doctor's Orders".

Andrew

P.S. Post Your own. Maybe we could total the numbers at the end.

Andrew

P.P.S. You also have to give top marks to Scott Bakula NOT flinching when Porthos gives him sloppy kisses all over his face in "Doctor's Orders". [Smile]

Oh come now. Jolene Blalock's breasts aren't any bigger than Jeri Ryan's. Probably a bit smaller, the way they had Ryan corsetted most of the time...

What, you've measured them by hand or something? B)

Trip
- He's had the best lines this season, and really the only one to have shown strong emotions.
Phlox
- Despite everything, Phlox is still cheery and slightly strange. And "Doctor's Orders" was good for him.
T'Pol
- Less nakedness, more solid acting.
Archer
- He's a good actor.. but Archer is still erratic in his decisions. And he hasn't had many 'friendly' moments this season.
Reed
- A few good scenes this season.
Hoshi
- She had the 'Squire of Gothos'-styled episode going on.
Mayweather
- Travis who?

Tucker (best character since DS9) his loss over his sister is really well portrayed and the episode with him playing "Sim" was one of my favorire Trek episodes ever.

Reed- he's funny, complex and kinda tragic in his role as ship's outsider.

Phlox- really, what's not to like? Great acting, unique character and a very alien outlook on everything from morals to mortality.

Archer- he doesnt handle the pressure as well as other captains we've seen but it's believable.
After all he's been through with the Xindi, WWII should be a vacation.

Hayes- I liked him every since he scrapped with Reed. I thought they'd do a Lethal Weapon kinda buddy team with him and Reed- and then he goes and has one of Trek's best death scenes (and a major character dies in sickbay! Possibly a first for Trek).

T'Pol- i didint like her untill this season but they've managed to get good performances from Ms. Blalok: T'Pol's no longer just eye-candy.

Mayweather- he's become a shadow at times, but he's also the first to voulenteer for a mission (like the one-way trip to the Xindi weapon with the torpedo). I like him. Besides, anyone with a NOMAD probe model in their quarters is cool.

Hoshi- She just sucks. It's sad that the most heroic thing she's done in three years is try to jump to her death.
I really did not expect her to survive the season finale once the shooting started.

I want a model of NOMAD

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

THere's a resin model of NOMAD as it appeared in TOS (it's about 8" tall at a guess).
My friend has it on top of his monitor at work.

I dont know of any model of the NOMAD spaceprobe though.

Well, the only finale thread is about alien Nazi bats, so I will complain here: I think it would have been better if Hoshi had sussed out the launch codes willingly under the threat of torture. She's the least military of any of the cast. Why wouldn't she freak out at the prospect of mind-eating worms? Since the plot involves her doing so anyway, and feeling bad about it, nothing changes there if she relents. And who is going to blame her, afterward? But instead she gets to dodge having to deal since it wasn't really her doing the decoding, in a sense. Can't characters be vulnerable once in awhile?

There. I don't think I've forgotten any cast member this time. [Smile] Yes, Hayes isn't a main cast member.

Trip -
Best actor in the bunch (IMHO), has had the best character developement, and is just a likeable character overall.

T'pol -
She's been the moral center of the crew, even with her "drug" habit, and is a good actress when not being reduced to a sex object.

Phlox -
Annoying at first, but his personality quirks have grown on me and is a good source for comic relief and other then T'pol generally is the best moral sounding board for the Captain and others.

Archer -
Normally would have been higher on the list, but this season has just been an extremely one-sided depiction of his character. Granted, he is tasked with saving Earth and that tends to make you focused on the goal, but I can't remember if he even cracked a smile this entire season or expressed any emotion besides anger or impatience. Still a good character though and that single-mindedness is a good quality dramatically sometimes.

Reed -
If you had asked this question in the first or early second season I would have told you he was my least favorite character. He was so fatalistic and always whining about something or other but in the latter half of the second season and in the third season he has really grown as a character. I enjoyed his interaction with Hayes and his obvious displeasure with some of the tasks he is asked to do as armory officer (the look on his face when he blew up the sentry outpost in "Azati Prime" for instance).

Mayweather -
Though underutilized, his character has the potential to be one of the most interesting on the show. The space boomer aspect needs to be explored more, especially their attitudes towards Starfleet which were glimpsed in "Fortunate Son".

Hoshi -
Though my favorite character from an eye candy standpoint, she has been used almost as little as Travis this season (at least until the last couple of episodes). They have never really explored the fact that she is clearly a genius and that should extend beyond the limited field she is allowed to participate in (comms and cryptography). I'd like to see her proposing solutions to some problems not related to communications issues.

Hayes, though not a primary castmember, has been a great addition this season and it would have been nice to have him stick around. [Frown]

I just find it funny that in the promos they were like "not everyone will make it..." or something like that, but instead of killing one of Our Heroes, they kill off a character that was introduced earlier in the season and hardly seen (hmm...sounds like Keffer...).

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

What was the point of Keffer?

Posted by Malnurtured Snay (Member # 411) on :

Who'd they kill? Major what's-his-name?

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

Major Hayes.

And as for Keffer, the high-ups in charge of B5 wanted a hotshot pilot guy that would be the heartthrob of the show or something. But JMS didn't like the idea so he killed him off at the end of the season when the suits stopped enforcing anything on the show.

Posted by J (Member # 608) on :

Keffer was a good character... but Mr.Ranger [whose name I constantly screw up when I haven't seen the show in a while, Marcus?] was the best character on B5 and it sucks that he died! Why didn't Franklin use 500 people and suck a little bit of their life out to restore him! AH!

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Did the device work on dead people, though?

Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :

Well, you'd think not, since it was invented to turn living people into dead people, not the other way around.

Or were you being sassy?

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

Wasn't it invented to turn living people into dead people so that dead people would live?

Was Marcus dead when Franklin got back to B5? If he was, then there was nothing they could do.

Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :

No, to turn living people into dead people so that almost-but-not-quite dead people would live.

And Marcus was already quite stiff by the time Franklin got back from Mars, yes. It was so Emotional and Touching.

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

But remember, Marcus is in stasis under Ivonova's orders to be possibly revived someday...

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

And he was revived briefly in some book, or something, I believe.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

I wasn't being sassy. I just meant the Marcus was dead by the time anyone knew what he had done, and I couldn't remember whether the device only worked on still-living people or not.

Posted by J (Member # 608) on :

Marcus wasn't dead until twenty years later when his statis tube was blown to pieces along with the station.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

No, he was dead. He just hadn't decomposed.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Um, one would assume that he was removed from the Station. Possibly Ivanova took him with her on her next assignment... sick - but a possibility! [Smile]

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Porthos was great - he spotted anomalies before the ship's sensors... he licked Archer silly in "Doctor's Orders". He was good moral support [Smile] Actually that's one thing - I'm sure the rest of the crew would like to have fun with Porthos - he seems to be the only pet on board... apart from the Doctor's bat! [Smile]

Trip - Mr. Nice Guy. Easy to identify oneself with, great actor.

T'Pol - Better than your average Vulcan Love Slave. My initial complaints about her just being a babe were definitely premature.

Hoshi - Show her more often!

Reed - Mr. Dynamite. I don't know, maybe I just think that a stiff character is good for the show.

Archer - Finally. Not my favorite captain, he's too inconsistent a character. He should have become a politician.

Mayweather - Simply boring.

Phlox - Was annoying at first because he got on everyone's nerves. Has become even more annoying because he just does what he wants whenever he wants and always gets what he wants. The only notable exception was in "The Breach".

Yep. But why are the threads spamed so old? Is that just a spambot thing? Someone clever help me understand!

Posted by Reverend (Member # 335) on :

Well they all seam to have "rate" in the title, that would seam to be a bit of a give away. One assumes spambots can scan subject headings for keywords.

Its times like these where I can understand other board's locking of threads older than a couple months.

There's also the practice of locking all threads to unapproved members. Not sure of UBB software has that capability, though.
