After writing about the new extended First Contact score AND Stargate soundtracks the otherday, I was saddened to read the news on my FB feed that Joel Goldsmith has died. He was only 54! That is too young. He did marvellous work on the Star Trek: First Contact soundtrack, and on all the Stargates. My favourite work of his is from Stargate: Universe.

Here's a short news article from startrek.com: http://www.startrek.com/article/remembering-joel-goldsmith-1957-2012

The FC score has some of my favourite Trek music. Even the TNG fanfare at the end had its own distinct character. I didn't realise he did SGU's music too. I loved the synthy stuff they had in the first few episodes, particularly the one where the ship was heading into a star. Reminiscent of the Sunshine soundtrack, but pushing it a little further.

The soundtrack for "Light" is wonderful, isn't. There are some extractions on Youtube, but I really, really hope an official soundtrack will eventually be released.
