I need to know which one you people like best. This one:

Or this one:

"They're right!!"

Frankly, none of them

Perhaps you have seen a different one or made one yourself The359?

Why are we assigning fan-made ships to canon classes?

Know what? If you give me the specs I design a version myself. Seriously! So what's the time period, type of ship?

Posted by The359 (Member # 37) on :

Actually, I have designed my own Hokule'a. Its simple and to the point. Its an Ambassador saucer and 2 nacelles, 1 on top, 1 on bottom, so its basic yet balanced. If I remember correctly, the USS Tripoli was listed as too far away and too slow to catch the hijacked Enterprise-D. She also must have been a junky design if she was retired by 2368 in "Unification"

I agree w/ Frank. If people are going to design ships, why can't they come up w/ their own names? Neither of those designs there is any more official than a weasel w/ warp nacelles on its tail would be...

Ooh...RW, design what TSN just said!

There will never be a canon design for the Hokule'a, since no studio model exists. So I think there is nothing wrong about fan-made designs for such starships, as long as they are consistent.

Ok everyone...I don't want any bloodshed here, I just wanted an opinion as to which fan-designed Houkule's you like better. I'm not asking anyone to consider them as the actual ship.

Bernd: But, that's just it: they aren't consistent. I mean, look at those two above. One has an Olympic sec. hull, nacelles I've never seen before, something vaguely resembling a Miranda rollbar, and a hopelessly outsized Oberth saucer. The other has an Excelsior saucer, Ambassador nacelles (w/o Bussards), and a C-II sec. hull. That's not what I would call consistent...

Cut 'im some slack!

Startrek is FICTION! Remember? That's why it's fun! We get to make up our own stuff now and again!

Now drop and give me twenty!

Grrr!

PS: On that first ship, which end is the front?

TSN: I understand cut-and-paste designs as concept images. They are lacking accuracy, but might serve as the basis for a "real", consistent design.

Star Trek is fiction, but it's Paramount's fiction. If you want to create ships and such, create your own fiction first.

Why don't we jsut answer the f-ing question?

Well, not really anything to do with Hokule'a class but, those variants in the back of the DS9TM, are nothing better that what has been put here, I mean look at that hoplessley out scaled Danube nacelle pylon on the Intrepid/Constitution variant...

what constitution did that engineering section come from anyway!?!

Geez you guys are harsh! I'm with Baloo. Mellow out on the guy!

Personally, I like the top one, but would love to see top and front views as well. Sometimes it's hard to say from just a side view!

I myself like the bottom one. It seems more like a starship of the Hokule'a time period. It has that ambassador-like secondaru hull, and those round warp engines. BTW, does anyone have any idea where the name Hokule's come from?

I believe Hokule'a is a Hawaiian canoe.

Yeah, that end apostrophe/vowel combination is popular in Hawai'i.

Andrew, I wasn't talking to you.

Just know this crowd gets militant about "canon", which to me is kinda silly...

Well, it depends on the specs and stuff .... personally, the bottom one looks more aesthetic ... but the top one looks like it has more technical promise.

And so what if he wants to design his own ship, even if the first design actually exists? .. I mean, come on ... it's only a design........

I'm not going to defend the above designs, for I don't like immature cut'n'paste either. I only like to annotate that conjectural designs are legitimate, if they are explicitly marked as such and unless there might be a "real" design for the ship.
