The only one i know is from the Pocket Book Series New Frontier and was destroyed in one of the previous books.

Btw, on the cover of the next Book "Restoration" is the Galaxy Class USS Exeter displayed.

Actually, the ship on the cover of "Restoration" is the Galaxy Class USS Exalibur NCC-26517-A.

The registry number would seem to be a six-digit one, so it's obviously one of those stupid letter-suffixed regos. The name, though, seems very short - more like Exeter than like Excalibur. Do you mean you have seen a better magnification than the one at PsiPhi?

Do we know, BTW, if the Exeter Shelby was assigned to is supposed to be a Galaxy class ship? The short spoilers at PsiPhi didn't seem to indicate this. Perhaps the Exeter is another refitted Ambassador, given to Shelby because of her experience in operating a ship of that class?

I do believe there is a non-canon Book reference to a Galaxy-Class Excalibur. I'll have to check my list and see if I included a source.

"Restoration" is the latest in the New Frontier series. In the previous book, USS Exalibur was destroyed, so now the crew gets a brand new, Galaxy class USS Excalibur NCC-26517-A. In fact, this book has been out for a while now that I think of it. The name is most definatly listed in the book, not sure about the registry though. But it does say -A on the cover picture...

My question is what has the USS Excalibur done that merits an A to the registry. It not like they saved planet/star system/universe (delete when appropiate).

Well, who knows - perhaps the ship performed heroic feats before Calhoun assumed command? Or perhaps the preceding Excaliburs combined had amassed enough fame to justify a suffix for the next one? There could have been half a dozen Excaliburs before the Galaxy class one was launched (unless the dedication plaque of the canonical Ambassador-class one said this was only the second ship to bear the name - did we ever see the plaque?).

Unfortunately, it appears that in novels authors can do just about anything. :-)
The -A appears in a novel called (I think) Saratoga. The novel is about Sisko and DS9 and in the book a new Saratoga is launched with the -A attached to the rego.

This was acceptable IMO. But the Saratoga-Captain in "Saratoga" had another name as the Saratoga-Captain in the novel "Emissary".

You'd think then that the Excelsior might get a suffix. It did prevent a Klingon/Federation was (er, with the Enterprise's help).

The Yamoto was a mistake. Look, do you think that Riker's smarter than the computer? He just made it up, to look like he knew what he was talking about.

What timeship had the suffix? The one in Future's End?

I looked through Restoration the other day at Borders.
According to the book, the newest starship to carry the name Excalibur is indeed, a Galaxy-class ship.
Shelby described it as being "a normal Galaxy-class on the outside, but on the inside, well, are you familiar with the old term "hot rod" ?" As for who the captain of this ship is, you will just have to read the book and find out for yourself.

Concerning Shelby's first command, the USS Exeter, The book doesnt say what class of ship the Exeter is. I would hypothesize that its one of the larger starship classes, since there was a 10-Forward lounge and holodecks mentioned as onboard facilities. There anr only 3 ship classes I can think of with saucer sections that large: the Sovereign, Galaxy and Nebula classes. Personally, I think its a Nebula class ship.

Anyone wish to comment on this?

Well the Exeter was a Ambassador class in canon trek, but really any big ship would do in the novels.

It would make sense for Starfleet to give Shelby an Ambassador class ship. She has experience with those, and originally Jellico more or less wanted her to take command of the Excalibur (by ousting Calhoun).

One wonders if most of the surviving Ambassadors spent the time of DS9 undergoing upgrades similar to those performed on the Excalibur before the beginning of the New Frontier series. Perhaps they had all been more or less dismantled for repairs and upgrading, and putting them back together for the war wouldn't have been cost-efficient - the dockyards would have been better used for supporting non-dismantled ships.

Jupiter station is made out of parts of decomissioned ships, such as Ambassador class saucers.
