Background
More than fifty years before the episode "A Taste of Armageddon", the USS Valiant, an Earth expedition, attempted to initiate first contact with Eminair Seven. The ship is declared a casuality and the crew are killed. There is no further contact between Earth (aka Federation) and Eminair Seven until the USS Enterprise.
There is evidence to suggest that the government of Eminair Seven gained knowledge of the Valiant and her builders, ex. Code 710.

Question
When Anan 7 and Captain Kirk have their final confrontation, Anan 7 asked the captain if his 500 were worth the lives of the people of Eminair 7. Before this episode, the number of the crew of the Enterprise were established to be 430. The question then is, was Anan 7 citing the Valiant's number of crew members?

Eminair? Was this the society founded by Tracey Emin and Donna Air, dedicated to following the teachings of Eminem? 8)

I don't think Anan's statement can be considered an indication of the crew complement of the Valiant. Whoever wrote the ep probably just remembered the Enterprise had "four or five hundred" people on board.

Also, it's not much fun being a crewman of a USS Valiant! First one, crash into the Galactic Barrier and turn into asshole superbeings; second one, attempt to make first contact but end up vapourised in a cupboard; third one, shot to pieces while in escape pods. There's some sort of close-confined-spaces motif going on here. . .

The Valient is obviously the evil-mirror version of the Rio Grande.
