It hasn't really come up yet on this board, but this shot of the ready room from an Enterprise promo shows clearly that the tradition of historical Enterprises being displayed is again being continued. I wonder if the hoop-ship will be there?

And pIn'a' Sov was asking for some shots of Lil' Archer's pseudo-Venturestar. We deliver. 1|2.

Looking at the lighting pattern on the wall, I am conjecturing that there are only two hand drawings-the 1800's USS Enterprise and the 1900's USS Enterprise. I don't think there is another hand drawing.

I looked at the pseudo-Venture Star. This ship has the nose of the Venture Star, but not the cockpit of the doomed shuttle prototype. This ship could be a successor to the Enterprise seen in the first movie.

Hmm... I really like the Enterprise montage there. Looks like they're using artist renditions instead of models, wood carvings, or actual pictures. I like it.

As for the hoop ship being there, what was the purpose of that Enterprise anyway? As far as I know, some circles of fandom have labeled it a Declaration class starliner. If it is a passenger cruise ship like what "starliner" implies, it could be conceivable that it is in operation at this same time. It'd be a civilian vessel to be sure. However, my knowledge of the backstory of the hoop-ship is limited, so I don't really know.

te: two points

a)The shadow and lighting aren't naturally occuring on the preview but modified by me to increase contrast and visibility.

b)How the hell does the lighting suggest anything of the sort that there're only the two pictures?

Lighting tells you the placement of a light source. There are two light sources one on either side of the 'sofa'. The pictures are hanging in the middle, above the sofa. These pictures are not completely in the light of either light source. Half of the picture is highlighted, half is in the dark.

/ Angle of camera

Though crude, we see that the room that Archer is in is very small. The camera is pointing to Archer at an angle that exposes more of his right side. He is facing a light source, possibly a viewer that projects a shadow on the wall behind him. Behind his left shadow, we see two pictures, a 'sofa', and a low level light source. There is another light source off camera. This can be seen by the placement of light and dark areas on the wall.

While relooking over the picture, I notice two new things. First, the pictures are protected behind a protective plastic covering. This covering is on top of the art works. Instead, the plastic seems to hover over the art works. A bolt used to connect the covering is seen in the upper left corner.

Behind Archer, possibly as an extension of the sofa or a free form, there is a low lying structure. This structure has something metallic on top of it.

I still can't see it. It may be a small room, but we can only see two of the walls. For all we know, the other two walls (assuming a rectangular room) could have additional pictures on this. Besides, those two pictures are of one of the sailing ships and one of the carriers named Enterprise. You still have at the very least the Space Shuttle to be pictured.

What self-respecting set decorator would frame a display of two photos so that the border around the outside is ten times thicker than the spacing between the two? The layout definitely suggests there's a whole series of them in a row.

Looks to me like he's talking to someone, therefore, there is more space for a picutre.

As far as Enterprises go, there have been a lot of them.

Without replicator technology, you can bet there's a good ol' fashion Mr. Coffee somwhere in that room. Unless Captain 'Becket' is a tea kind of person.

They better not have Raktajeno or Red Leaf Tea on 'Enterprise' they are Klingon and Cardassian beverages respectively.

The pictures are already out of order. They are missing the WW II era Enterprise, CV-6. She's much more famous than the nuclear powered Enterprise. I wonder why they'd skip over her?

The display on the rec deck in TMP or in the pic above don't have the CV-6? I can hardly see how one can tell which carrier it is from that grainy little shot above.

The island structure of CV-6 is very distinct from that of CVN-65, so I'd bet real quatloos that TMP does indeed have the CV-6. Perhaps CVN-65 is shown here just out of spite, to compensate for the fact that the next starship of that name is already slated to be left without a picture of the nuclear carrier, as per Starfleet General Order 4 (aka GO 7) that forbids excessive use of continuity on the pain of death?

Or perhaps the nuclear carrier is fated to become even more famous than the WWII ship - possibly singlehandedly keeping Khan and his cohorts away from California in 1996?

There are either 3 or 5 pictures there. Look at the plexiglass sheet that's holding everything to the wall. There's a fastener in the top far corner, then one on the bottom under the center of the closest picture. Following the pattern, there'd have to be either one or three more picures. I'm voting for only one more. And it'll probably be the shuttle.

Though now that I look closer...there also seems to be a fastener above the closet piece as well...oh well...I'm still gonna say there's one more pic there. It would center better over the sofa thing.

Oh, and BTW, Archer's talking to the Vulcan observer in this scene...what's her name...T'Pol?null

"Starfleet General Order 4 (aka GO 7) that forbids excessive use of continuity on the pain of death?"

That was a nice joke masked in an extremely nerdy piece of knowledge there Timmy. Were you testing us?

That's the first time I've ever seen Timo referred to as "Timmy"...

What, Tim, afraid you'll lose your carefully built-up name-recognition and drawing power?

Gauging the number of pictures by the fasteners on the wall is a great idea, actually. The fasteners seem to be spaced at roughly (4/3)s the width of each picture. That would mean that the picture after the carrier (the shuttle, presumably) would have a fasterner centered on it, the one after that would have it on the near side of centred, and then there'd be one final pic before the fastener in the near corner. That makes five.

Now, supposing that the Ent-(-A) is the last ship in the series, then number 4 is almost certainly the hoopship. Somebody cue the 1812 overture.

But if the last ship isn't the Ent-(-A) but instead another predecessor, we might have another newish design on our hands. Somebody cue the 1812 overture with live cannons.

*counts on fingers over and over*

I think my wee-hours-of-the-morning math skills are somewhat lacking. A (4/3) of the picture width fastener spacing would mean 4 pictures. Argh.
