Does anybody have a scan of the ship that was featured on the latest ST mag....

Apparently it's called the USS Aventure or something close to that.

My buddy that I was chatting to, told me it was a non-canon ship. I thought it was weird at ST mag feature a ncanon ship.

It's called the Aventine.

i guess cannon & non-cannon will be harder with so many different things going on with the property (how the books go the direction of destiny, STO's direction, & the JJverse)

but if it gets printed on some media as offically endursed by paramount (the caledars, book covers) do that make it cannon... does it have to be a tv show or movie as the tried & true bench mark?

All I've got to say about that link is... "Captain Ezrin Dax"!?! Hrmm.

Guess they'll make anyone captain these days.

there's no way a counselor in the medical department with zero command experience could have risen to the ran of captain this short a time after DS9 ended.

I've got the picture of the Aventine from the calendar as my desktop right now. But I don't like the angle shown there as much.

Aban, have you read any of the current Destiny & post-Destiny series books? Think Yesterday's Enterprise Feddy status + several thousand surviving ships... the way the plot goes, it makes STO's story line look cheerful (the Breen? weeeee... the Devidians? weeeee...)

Actually, Ezri became captain before the whole Caeliar thing. It was a Picard scenario, really. She was the first or second officer (I forget which), everyone above her was killed, she took over, etc.

Posted by MinutiaeMan (Member # 444) on :

But even before that, didn't she decide she wanted to move to command? It wasn't like they made the counselor the first officer...

Posted by Fabrux (Member # 71) on :

She was first officer of the Defiant under Vaughn during the Mission Gamma arc.

Add to that her experiences and memories from Jadzia.

I would surmise that when choosing Trill for positions in Starfleet, especially command, they would go by the host only. Just because one of the symbiote's previous hosts was a captain, doesn't mean the current host has what it takes, y'know?

Posted by Dat (Member # 302) on :

True, but given Ezri's unique situation, it might have been easy for her.

In fairness, I haven't read the books. So, I suppose alot could've happened between WYLB and now. I just don't see cute little 95 lb. Ezri Dax commanding a state-of-the-art starship. But like I said... I haven't read them. So I can't really judge.

The Ds9 books are really very good- unfortunately, the TNG, Voy and Titan stuff (not to mention the excretable New Frontier) are utter complete shit.

Really- a steaming pile of shit, held in your hands would be far superior an experience to books like Resistance, where he find out the Borg Queen is made when drones excrete "royal jelly" and...well, need I say more, really?

Posted by Pensive's Wetness (Member # 1203) on :

Really? did the writer of Resistance even talk with the writer of the Destiny series?

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

The Resistance book came out just prior to the first Destiny book -which I'm skipping.
Really, everything past the DS9 book Unity sucks impossibly hard.

I highly reccomend all the DS9 books though- it's very much like an 8th season.

I will give you that Warpath and Fearful Symmetry are rather hinky, but the Worlds of DS9 books are rather good, I thought. And I rather enjoyed the Terok Nor series. Its a prequel, I know, but ties in with the Warpath/Fearful Symmetry plot.

Yeah but...they just stopped making DS9 books after that!
Really- it's been a couple of years now...WTF?!?

Posted by Fabrux (Member # 71) on :

Well, there was "The Soul Key" and "The Never Ending Sacrifice" (which I still haven't read), which was released about a year ago. Hmm. Makes me wonder what's going on with the series...

Yeah, right? I mean, they play up Sisko's knowing someting awful must be faced down regarding the Orbs and all that and they do a cool Mirroe Universe gag to make the evil Kira even more evil and crazy, give her Tranatar as a bodyguard (I like him despite the dumb name) and then...
Nothing.

I really REALLY loved all the stuff leading up to Unity- I might tear through those books again this week- the suprises and deaths are pretty shocking and I think it nicely wraps up that loose thread from TNG.

From what little information I've been able to gather lately the Typhon Pact novels seem to be picking up where the DS9 relaunch left off. Whether the relaunch as a series is dead, I can't tell. [Confused]

perhaps looking at individual websites of past/recent book contributers might show insight on the health of the medium... Trekmovie hasnt show many new novels of late...

Fab, i tried reading Soul Key but just couldn't (totally uninteresting).... The other book? i couldnt put that bitch down, really liked the post Cardy POV...

In other news, Mr.Spock teams with Baroness, Optimus Prime, and Dr. Peter Venkman to fight zombies.

Ack.

And yet, this appeals to me for some reason.

i can't wake for the pr0n version of this to cum out...

i like the concept art for the robots... but come on... Transformers meets Ghostbusters...

Posted by Mars Needs Women (Member # 1505) on :

...meets Star Trek. I want to see how they'll make it work.

Posted by Fabrux (Member # 71) on :

About as well as they made TNG and X-Men work. That is, not at all.

Two words: Alternate Reality.

Turns out it works even better than the good old reset button. Now we only have to figure out whether the destruction of Remulus happened in the war-torn, BSG-ized novel universe, the nice and fluffy STO universe or the real post-Nemesis universe. [Smile]

And since when do STMag articles even come close to being considered canon? What happened to you guys while I was gone? Canon is only the stuff that's on-screen plus the tech manuals plus the encyclopedia, as long as it's not contradicted. Am I correct? No Anventine or Titan or Destiny or Excalibur will ever be canon in my book.
