For the remastered "Unification, Part I", there was a change made to the okudagram for the T'Pau. It now reads as VEHICLE ID=NSP-17938 (MAHL'KOM GROUP) Why did they change this line? What is this group?

This is a very trivial change, especially when I consider the set appears above the shuttlebay set in "A Matter of Time". I would thought the latter would have received more attention.

Surely it's an in-joke referring to somebody named Malcolm, probably someone involved in the remastering. Weren't some other such in-jokes added for other remastered episodes?

The Mahl'kom group is named after the Vulcan word for serenity. We learned this in the Enterprise season 1 episode "Shuttlepod One":

(Scroll down to "Mal-kom")

I asked Mike Okuda about this reference and he confirmed it. It's in the observations article at EAS now.

Thanks for pointing that out, and welcome gaghyogi49! Nice to have a fresh voice in here to catch little things like that.

Thanks for the definition of the word. It's a nice little homage to Star Trek: Enterprise. Can you ask him what was the connection between this group and the registry?

Possibly a reference in passing to the series Firefly? Malcom Reynolds and his ship Serenity?

That occured to me as well, but "Shuttlepod One" was produced about 9 months before Firefly premiered.

Just another front in the Temporal Cold War.
