The Larson Class destoyer, with a ridiculously high number, but that's not my fault [Smile]

Comments, rants, etc?

I have to agree on the registry, but the drawing looks good. I wonder though of what the TOS era ships would look like given the more detailed treatment of later TV area.

Larson, not Loknar

Who said Loknar? Loknar was in another thread.

Looks really cool, as does the Loknar.

Open thy eyes.. the drawing of the Larson-class ship in the first post is incorrectly labeled "Loknar" at the top

ACK.. silly me.

Gonna fix it now.

Ahh...maybe my eyes are just tired of seeing people be negative and sarcastic in their first posts in a thread.

*rubs eyes*

Nope...that didn't help.

Your AOA on the extension on the dorsal plan is a little different & there's no beveling on your bow elevation, but looks damn good. Also, maybe that "control reactor" would be rotated to the bottom of the nacelle a la the Salames-class.

I really liked a lot of the FASA designs, both TOS, movie, & some of the TNG ones..some not so much in exact form but in general overall shaping. Sitting her flipping through the old manuals makes me smile as I think about how I've been influenced by some of the design elements here.

Harry, very nice job on these old FASA ships! However, I have to admit, I don't like some of these FASA ships much, since they have overly elaborate nacelle supports without doing anything interesting with the primary hull (except screw with the size).
One problem with the schematic, which I also made on my recent Constitution schematic (bad source material), is that on the side view, the mound on the top of the primary hull is not be wide enough. Judging from the position of the registry number on the top view, on the side view the registry would be on the flat outer edge of the disc rather than on the mound. I discovered this problem when I tried to put the registry on the side view that there was no place to put it! I think this is a problem with the side view rather than with the placement of the registry on the top view. CultTVman recently had some schematics that included the registry on the side view (and front view): http://www.culttvman.com/merriman_enterprise_part_1.html

A shading problem: On the side view, the back end of the edge of the plate extending back from the disc is shaded like the forward edge and suggest a curvature. However, since this edge is flat and straight, its shading should be uniform.

Any chance you'll start using a greenish grey base color rather than straight grey? [Smile]

Ugh. Dave Merriman. He IS as good as his ego says he is...but he's such a fucking cock that half the people don't want to have anything to do with him.

Yeah, I've read some of Merriman's article. He's really full of himself. I just posted the link for the pictures.

I've updated both designs with more accurate (I hope) Connie parts. I actually made orthographic-ish photos of the AMT/ERTL model.

You left off the red/green lights on the side and front view. Other than that, it looks great.

It looks very much like those little ships that passed Voyager in "Virtuoso".
The ships in their spacedock are small, like 70-100 meters or so, with a saucer and a spoiler on the back. They are seen at two points in the little trailer of the ep, at startrek.com.

Here. http://lobotomy.pleh.net/~flareupload/uploads/205/234pic03.jpg

Not exactly, but kind of Larsony.

Looks like an Akira study model...

Actually, that ship reminds me of the Norway...

And just to let y'all know, those space stations are actually pre-designs of DS9. They are shown quite clearly in the book Making of Deep Space Nine.

I'm going on holiday for a week, so no new fandom schems this week, but the Surya is almost finished.

Top views of these ships were in an issue of the Fact Files. I'll scann it as soon as I find it.

They put schematics of the Surya in the Fact Files? Are they trying to suggest that Surya is a canon class?

Posted by Spike (Member # 322) on :

No, pictures of the Virtuoso-ships.

Posted by Nim Pim (Member # 205) on :

Yes, please do! They were keul.

Posted by Dat (Member # 302) on :

Oh, I see now. Could have made it a little more clear though, seeing as your post is right after one that talks about the Surya class.

I think they are nice, especially the ones on the right. Very streamlined, in every sense of the word. They were supposedly way ahead of the Federation in tech base.

So here's my question: The VFX guys could make four nicely designed alien ships that would be seen only in one quite forgettable episode, but they couldn't even make one new Starfleet design for "Endgame"? (Need I point out that three of the four ships even have saucer sections...)

Or for "Enterprise". [Smile]
