...(or is it a curse?) between Episode 1 and Star Trek: the Motion Picture.

Think about it. Episode 1 had great special effects. TMP had great special fx (for its time?), and lots of it. Episode 1 had a weak plot, bad dialogues, AND bad acting. The same could be said for TMP except maybe the dialogue and acting. Both had an ten-year-or-more hiatus of the franchise, leaving fans begging for more. Both were successes despite the disappointment because of the hungry fans. But I doubt Lucas will get kicked out of the producer's chair.

Maybe the even-numbered movie will be better.

What do you mean, "a weak plot, bad dialogues, and bad acting"?! I disagree vehemently! In ten years it will be regarded as one of the best films of all time.

Er...I thought there were enough other threads in here talking about how bad the movie was, so I didn't explain it further (Refer to RW's thread).

Elim: Jake Lloyd. Liam Neeson is a good actor, just not in this movie. You can probably count the number of his emotional phases with one hand.

Lloyd was playing this cute little kid. What did you expect? Same with Neeson...he played a Jedi Master. His character is comparable to Obi-Wan Kenobi's in ANH.

Star Wars - episode 4 - the favourite. STAR TREK IV - the Favourite

ESB - the dud - STAR TREK V - the Dud

ROJ - probably one of the best - at least bloody good. STAR TREK VI - the same

TPM - TMP!!!!! what is THAT! look look. heh heh - as well as what you said.

so expect Eps 2 and 3 - to run into each other - and both be bloody cool.

Since when was The Empire Strikes Back the dud of the Star Wars family? I'm quite sure most people prefer that to at least one other of the first three movies.

I agree...ESB has the advantage of being in the middle, so it draws upon the previous story but doesn't have to conclude anything. To many people, it's easily the best.

I have seen many cute little kids who are better actors than Jake Lloyd. Examples: Naomi Wildman, kid who plays Young Tarzan, young Jake Sisko.

True. Scarlett Pomers is a rather good actress, particularly in comparison with most kid actors out there.

sorry Jedi Weyoun, I have to agree Scarlett Pommers great actress.

well ESB - is a 'dud' for me - i doesn't really do anything SPECIAL - where as so far ANH - was the first
Jedi - was the last and TPM was the first prequel.

*L* Andrew--i wasn't referring to that post. just this thread in general. rather nitpicky. actually, if scarlet pommers is the one who played amidala and padme, then i agree, she was a very good actress. i think she's very pretty too, once you get all that horrid makeup off her.

No, no! Pomers is the actress who plays Naomi Wildman on Voyager.

Amidala was played by Natalie Portman. Sheesh.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO Star Wars ship length discussions, please for the love God. I done ship length discussions on Star Trek and Babylon 5 (B5 I done on 2 websites). If this started in Star Wars it would drive me crazy.

Tora: I must reply to something you said. We hear in ESB from Yoda that Jedis are very serious and sober. I think we see that in Liam Neeson. Do I approve? Not whole-heartedly. Why can't we see an exuberant, extraverted Jedi for once? How about a Jedi slob? How about a Jedi who's a jerk? (But still good in the end.) Jedis are supposed to be good at concealment. How about a 007-type Jedi who can wine and dine with the social elite of the galaxy for intelligence work? (Lucas would make a ton on that flick.) My gripe is that Jedis are cool, but we may not be seeing the whole range of different personalites and specialties. I'd like to see a little variety.

The Jedi have become one with the universe, hence the sober attitude. An extravert would just cut himself with the Lightsaber. Qui-Gon was probley the wildest Jedi we'll see.

Well, that's probably true, Kosh, (and a good point) but even those who are considered "one with the universe" have moments of exuberance. There is an anchient Chinese motif of a fat laughing man on a donkey; the man is Lao Tzu, considered by many to be one of the foremost enlightened beings ever to live. Extraversion isn't exclusionary to enlightenment, just not a largely covarying characteristic. I agree that most Jedis are a bit dreary at parties, but an effective peacekeeping force (of over 10,000 according to one of those encyclopedias I see) is bound to have a few people of a different bent then the High Council.
