A change is coming. In The Force, I sense it. In swamp, the, taste it I. In the feel air I it.

If interest is sufficient, I'll choose a new Forum Description for the Star Wars section, as most of the other sections are also doing it right about now.
I'll even grant you the illusion of democracy, just this once.

So make some snazzy suggestions, Padawans.
10 words is the limit, no bashing or ethnic slurs ("Nemoidians are based on japanese Shemale businessmen and Lucas dreamt them up to fulfill his otaku fantasies!!!").

May my Force be with you.

Me too, Spike, but I felt it prudent to gauge the mood of the crowd, as it were.

Veers: Your first entry sounds more like a header for the Moderator's Forum, when has this place ever dealt with "moderator-type issues"???

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

It is the description for the Mods Forum. I'm sure he was trying to make some sort of joke.

How about, simply, "I've got a bad feeling about this."?

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

Didn't we have that one before? I really like Jay's last suggestion. . .

And the winner doesn't even look right. The actual quote is "an elegant weapon, for a more civilised age." "An elegant Forum, for a more civilised age" works quite well, but ". . . for the more civilised ages" sucks.

Right, contest is over, winner was Omega's quote, with a semantical alteration to match the original movie quote.

Lee: "for the more civilized ages" is what Alec Guiness literally said.

Runner-ups were TSN with "The only forum to make the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs", and Bond, James Bond with "TK-421, why aren't you writing a post?".

Posted by Ultra 2 Legit 2 Magnus (Member # 239) on :

hmm

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

It still sounds like "a". And it's hard to tell whether that 's'-like sound at the end is actually an 's' or not, since the file cuts off there.

Posted by Jay the Obscure (Member # 19) on :

I'd go with "a" if it were up to me.

Which of course it isn't.

It does sound like "An elegant weapon for the more civilized ages" on the .wav file to me, but that just blows.

I'd just go for "An elegant weapon for a more civilized age" because it sounds better and that's what everyone thinks he says anyway.

Rabid Warsies?
I've always known Star Wars fans to be (snicker) level-headed, well adjusted members of (ha HA!) society and....

Oh fuck it: they're all nuts.

Unlike Trek fans, of course.

I'm currently fostering anarchy and possible anuresms over at SSM in their ongoing "Wars vs. Trek" thread of circular argument.

Ahhhhhh....it's so good to be so evil. [Smile]

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Yeah, definitely. I understand that, before the whole anti-Semitism thing, the Third Reich was founded on the principle of taunting science fiction fans.

Not WWII: we're talking more WWI.
Recall that a small group of supposedly non-aligned "anarchists" were responsible.

Not that that idea ever set well with me.

besides, it's amusing to see Warsies try to explain Lucas' lack of plausable jargon in ANH.
".5 past lightspeed" indeed. [Big Grin]

Parsecs as a measurement of time, what a hoot!

Ah, the old "state an age-old prejudice in the hopes that Warsies will jump on it with stock retorts", eh?

Come now, Beverly, sertainly there are bigger fish to fry.

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

I can certainly understand your desire to remain neutral in all this, Nimmychops, but if we wanted to provoke the ire of the Warsies there are several other venues which would be far more ideal for such japery. One of which I know for certain Jason is a member of (although not me, since I said less-than-reverent things about a dead president).

And I've read enough of the articles on G2K's site to know that really life is too short to waste arguing with Star Wars fans! 8)

Posted by Nim the Merciful (Member # 205) on :

Because the Kessel Run wasn't about delivering wares at the shortest time, but by using the quickest route (putting ship and crew in danger), hence why it was measured in parsecs.

Huh? Where is this?
I'm only a member of Flare and SSM (I've left Subspace comms- the current members offer very few ship designs there worth looking at any more).
