The second season of Clone Wars started airing yesterday on Cartoon Network. This time, there are only five episodes, but they are about twelve minutes in length, I think. In case you miss any of them, the episodes can be seen here the day after they air on TV.

Season 2 picks up exactly when Season 1 left off, with several Jedi getting their butts handed to them by Grevious. All but three are killed before some Clone Troopers arrive to save them. They also try to take on Grevious, but very soon realize they don't stand a chance and retreat with the Jedi.

The Jedi are revealed to be taking major losses and are in dire need of new recruits, so Obi-Wan proposes that Anakin be promoted to Jedi Knight. After a bit of arguing the rest of the Council agrees.

Anakin and Padme are still hiding their marriage, although C-3PO manages to track them down. 3PO just got his gold exterior, which he seems to find fitting in his role of serving a Senator.

About the last thing we see is the knighting ceremony. Anakin enters the Council chamber to find all the Council with their lightsabers drawn. Yoda touches the blade to both of Anakin's shoulders, and then slices off that braided hair thing, which I guess is the symbol of a padawan. Anakin sends the braid to Padme, which she tucks away in a box.

*drool*

I can't wait to get all the eps together on DVD. I'm sure that will be included in the super special ultimate collector's edition of the movies at some point.

Isn't the first set already out on its own?

Yes.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

hmmm... $14 bucks isn't bad. I'll still probably wait until they all come out together.

"We're sorry, episodes are only available to viewers in North America"

Stingy cunts.

Strange. I got that warning when trying to access the page through Mozilla (and I live in the US). It worked with IE, though.

Would it work if you went through the anonomyzer (or whatever it was/is called)?

Is it worth my while trying to watch these things before the film comes out? Might have to try to find a torrent. . .

Posted by B.J. (Member # 858) on :

I think it's worth it. They are actually progressing the story somewhat.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

Yes. Watch them.

Seeing an animated Mace Windu be a bad motherfucker = worth your while.

Hmm, no luck so far. Damn, why did SuprNova have to go away?

Posted by Dukhat (Member # 341) on :

I just saw the series for the first time tonight on the Cartoon Network. All I have to say is:

Wow.

Not even knowing the existence if this series until tonight, I was immediately hooked. Granted, the animation was not of Japanese anime style, coming from the same kid who made Dexter's Laboratory (a funny cartoon but not exactly first-rate animation), but as I continued to watch, I became more impressed with what I saw. I can't wait to buy the DVDs.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Is this series one still you are talking about Dukhat or has series 2 started?

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

It has finished, actually.

Posted by B.J. (Member # 858) on :

I'm confused now. I finally caught the last chapter online, and we're basically left with a cliffhanger? The droid armies mounted an attack on Coruscant, which was a ruse so that Grievous could kidnap Palpatine. It was obvious that Palpatine orchestrated the whole thing, but I don't think Grievous was in on it - at least he didn't act that way. It worked, so now Palpatine has been "kidnapped". Is this where they're leaving it until Episode III, or is something else going to happen? Or did I miss something?

B.J.

Episode 3 picks up about a half an hour after those events. Or so I'm told.

$$$not-really-SPOILER$$$

Yes- Ep.III starts with Obi-Wan and Anakin going on a mission to rescue Palpatine.

I've seen chapters 21, 22 and 23. I like the longer format!

Note that Anakin's battle armor borrows some elements from Vaders armor... or vice-versa [Smile]

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

I've only been able to get chapter 21 to play... the others either just don't work or tell me I can only view them if I'm in the US.

*cough*bittorrent*cough*

Finished them all.

Very good stuff - I can picture the opening scrawl and the opening scene of RotS!

I hope Shaak Ti is in the film!

Posted by Kazeite (Member # 970) on :

Yep - she kicked some major behind. [Smile]

But I'm still wondering - why is Grevious still alive? They had so many chances to finish him off... But of course they couldn't - he needs to suffer in ep3 [Big Grin]

$$$ Spoilers from the Trailer $$$

Apparently she's not. At least, she doesn't seem to be on the council anymore.
 -

The empty seat is presumably for Anakin. The next two or three frames reveal that that are no more seats between Kit Fisto and the hologram of Plo Koon.

It's cool that one councilmember is there via hologram.
Working from home, I guess (he's still in his bathrobe even!). [Wink]

Why would Anakin have a seat on the Council? Don't you have to be a Jedi master for that? Or is that Obi-Wan on Ki-Adi-Mundi's right?

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

In the trailer Mace specifically says, "You're a part of this council (at the request of Palpatine), but we do not grant you the rank of master."

There have actually been Knights on the council before. I don't remember which one, but one of the ones in Ep 2 was only a Knight.

Posted by The Mighty Monkey of Mim (Member # 646) on :

I forgot about that line. Thanks.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Anyone got a list or should we make one of the council from TPM->AOTC->CW->RotS?

Is that Sirse Teein SP? With is back to us next to Kit Fisto - or is that the little Jedi guy with the big ears?

Watching the second chapter of the Clone Wars I noticed that they specifically showed Adi Gallia, Oppo Ranciciss, The Little guy with the big ears and one eye, Kit Fisto, Ki Adi Mundi, Plo Koon, Yoda, Mace Windu, Shaak Ti and the guy with the little horns - the same species as Darth Maul.

That makes 10... are there 9 or 12 positions on the council?

We know that in the years intervening TPM and AOTC Yareel Poof (the one with the long neck and two brains) and Yaddle (Yoda's species chick) died.

Is the Indian looking woman still on the council Deepa Biloba?? Is that her name?

In AOTC - that greenish Jedi with the cranial crest that plummeted to his presumed death in the Arena showdown on Geonosis was on the council. As was a Rhodian.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

From what I can see, the Council in that picture consists of Kit Fisto (now going left), Tiin, New guy who looks to have a crest on his head in a different shot, the Zabrak Jedi with the little horns, Obi Wan, Ki Adi, Yoda, Mace, and Plo Koon. I take no responsibility for inaccurate spelling [Smile]

Oppo Rancisis seen in the second volume of the Micro Series is not here, presumably killed. Shaak Ti is gone. Depa Bilaba was replaced by another woman of her species for Episode 2, but doesn't appear to be here either.

I think a list of the council from all three episodes and the micro series would be in order...

Oh come on now, enough with these alleged character names already.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

Huh?

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

Well, the "come on now" part is due to having watched a boatload of Father Ted episodes recently, and the rest of it is I am sure annoyed at how all these characters who have no names in the film get names in order to sell toys, and also the names are silly.

It is not directed at you personally. I am just one hundred percent bitter and cynical.

EU is canon in SW, yo.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

They're all listed in those Visual Guides to Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones.

Just looking closely again at that cap... the lizardy guy with the crest is the same guy as the one who got shot over the wall on Geonosis, plummetting to his presumed death.

I think they TOTALLY missed that one.

Oppo is gone!?! NOOOOOOOOOOO! [Big Grin] I want to see him move - he's got no legs. [Big Grin]

Not for long: Episode III will certainly undermine a LOT of stuff: particularly if Lucas offers any further insight to the Sith.

I liked seeing a "Hammerhead" (can't remember the SW universe name) as a Jedi. Using his deep voice as a weapon was very cool.

I too liked that - something different. Was it Force-enhanced or just a species thing? It was bringing up concrete etc.

And with General Grievous - is that part 'living' thing inside the helmet part?

Well reguards to the names etc. as I said they came from that visual encyclopaedia - so It'd be the same as any facts that are found in books like the TNG Tech manual - it's sorta fact until it's disproven on film.

The "hammerhead's" voice thing is probably a bit of both natural species ability and force manipulation.
Mabye the species uses sound as a sensory perception or as a sonic weapon of some kind, and he just aguments it with the force.

Grevious is suposed to be originally organic, but all that's left is the brain and eyes, I think.
I've seen his personal starfighter- it's ...odd.
Kind of a art deco spaceship version of the car from Monopoly.

Pity he's now at one with the Force - it'd be cool to see another of his race as a Jedi in RotS.

Actually more not-so-human Jedi would be interesting. I'd also like to see more Jedi powers than just like telekenesis etc in fighting.

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

Well in the episode Shaak Ti specifically says "Ithorians; four throats."

Amen! Why, exactly, can't five jedi hold Grevious fifty feet away from them? Or maybe, say, melt him?

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Or mabye just use the ol' Telekinesis to tear him apart in diffrent directions?

Or just switch off his lightsabres while he's fighting?

Or just use a DEMP gun on his droid-ass.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

Yah, it doesn't seem like Jedi should have any trouble at all fighting something that isn't also Force proficient. There's a scene from the trailer where Anakin and Obi Wan are trying to Force push each other in what looks like an arm-wrestling contest. So Force users can probably counteract each other's use of the Force, but I don't see why Grievous would be able to keep them from using the Force to, as you say, rip him into pieces.

Posted by Omega (Member # 91) on :

I just watched the last of the series. At the end, Windu does smush Grevious real good. What, nobody thought of doing this before?

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Yeah I noticed that too - but twice - chapter 20 and in these later chapters - it looks like Grievous has some sort of force abilities - well it looks like it does.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

Maybe the organic part of him is Force-adept.

Has anyone else been having trouble getting StarWars.com to work since they changed it to that Flash opening?

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

It could also be that although they are all Jedi masters, they might not be as powerful as say Windu, Yoda, or Anakin...

Posted by Kazeite (Member # 970) on :

Tell me - how much ability do you need to telekinetically raise one of the Grevious' trophies, press it against his chest and telekinetically press the button? [Big Grin]

That's the biggest disappointment of the new trilogy: the Jedis are (mostly) pathetic.
Even compared to Jango, they suck out loud.

No way would Luke (a relatively inexperienced kid) get killed by some chicken-headed droid in an arena.

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 138) on :

CartoonNetwork is doing a marathon right now. I didn't catch it from the beginning, the first one I saw was showing how lightsabers were made then droids blowing up the cave. Now it's showing one where Grevious is going after Palpatine.

What exactly is Grevious? A mix of human and droid? The prototype of Vader?

The clone troopers are dropping like flys. It's a surprise there's still any during the Ep IV-VI era. I like how they have different color markings, while others are in all white. Plus some Jedi wear trooper armor which looks cool. All the Jedi seem to hold the rank of general while Anakin is a commander.

Because Anakin is the Chosen One.

Chosen to get snacks....
Chosen to deliver messages....
Chosen to play deep right field...
Chosen to have the only office with no window...
Chosen to be designated driver.....
CHosen for Force wedgies...

It's why he's always sooo angry, despite having such a hot wife.

The first season has the Clone Troopers wearing the armour from episode 2. I'm not sure, but doesn't season 2 use a mix of episode 2 Clonetrooper armour and episode 3 Stonetrooper (clormtrooper?) armour?

Posted by Nim' (Member # 205) on :

No, the story and timeframe of the second season segues seamlessly into Ep.III, they have to have the same armor as in the movie. Maybe you're thinking of the troopers in the Proto-X-Wing navy bombers that fly through Coruscant, thier armor differs somewhat from the ground troops.

Point of hm: In the first episode of the second season there's a Trooper officer reporting to the rain-drenched Kenobi, I could've sworn Kenobi referred to him by name, indicating individuality. "Commander Teran" or something, I think.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Well, they'd almost have to have a name system wouldn't they?

The notion of just numbering them is silly- particularly if the clones secretly think of themselves as 'Jango".

Posted by RLF (Member # 1396) on :

"Commander Cody" was the name.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

Cody? I think there should be a Commander Dylan and Commander Tyler too to round out the naming scheme. They could be the other two ARC Troopers.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

So, where were the Lost Planet Airmen during all this?

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

I'm trying to guess if that's the sort of band Tartakovsky might like. The only thing I've got to bass it on is a Captain and Teneale reference in Dexter's Lab once, and I've never heard of them either. So I don't know.

Well, unless his tastes tend towards the most nightmarish corners of the 1970s, I'd guess we were looking at a kitschy joke.
