New York's airports have shut down again.

Man of Middle East descent arrested -- in pilot's uniform, with fake ID, attempted to gain access to a plane. Background check reveals he had been booked on one of the two Boston flights to hit the WTC. He is arrested.

Two men of Saudi Arabian descent detained. Both in pilot's uniform carrying "crew" luggage, both had reservations made on the 11th.

These incidents happened at JFK and La Guardia, but I can't remember which happened where. I heard this on 1090 WBAL in Baltimore.

That's what I said. I wasn't sure which specific incident happened at which specific airport.

Five men at La Guardia, four men and a woman at JFK. The four men at JFK had actually already boarded the plane (bound for Los Angeles) and resisted arrest.

This is according to ABCNews.com.

You're not going to get me in an airport for the next 5 years. I'll take a train across country before I'll fly.

It's odd though that these groups' MOs were somewhat different than the successful hijackings. In the successful ones, the hijackers were passengers. In these, they were pretending to be crew members. I wonder why the difference? It may go to support the theory that they are organized into cells that know nothing about the other cells' activities.

I suspect that, based on accidents per miles traveled, that trains are quite a bit less safe than airplanes. But I can understand your sentiments.

I do a bit of traveling in the Northeastern U.S. ...

I have family in Scranton, PA; Prospect, CT; Dayton, OH; extended family (distant cousins, great uncles and so on) throughout New England; friends in New York City; Rochester, NY; Boston, MA ...

I usually don't fly. I flew to and from Boston in November of '99, but when I went up in March of 2000, I drove.

I prefer to drive, there's something very comforting about being in control of where you're going and when. And I will continue to drive.

Will they be interrogating the captured people? Will they be tossing them into the oubliette?
