What the hell do they mean, "the writers have been trying to wrap up the stories of many of the characters seen over the years"??!! Vorik didn't have any backstory to wrap up as far as I know. Neither did Carey, or Ayala. And I can't think of any characters who have appeared in the show "over the years" that I really give a damn about what happens to them.
Unless when they say "wrap up" they really mean "after seven years, this character will finally end up six feet under just days before Voyager gets home..."

Just kill of the standard crew along with the ship, some sort of heroic sacrifice in which the ship is destroyed - the senior officers could escape in the Delta Flyer just in time to get back to Earth safely.
