Well, in tonight's episode, we got to see the rank insignia for an enlisted crewman. It looks like it was stitched onto the uniform. It looked like a standard arrowhead in a circle, with three angled bars on the left side of it.

*cough*

Close? Terrible attempt? Proof positive Tom is graphically inept?

It's closer to what Tom has, except I don't think the bars are attahed to the circular thingie.

I think Mark's right. To me, it definitely looked like there were two seperate pins. Looking at Novakovich's insignia, it looked like at times he was wearing a lieutenant's pin. So I really think that they're two distinct pins.

Yeah, that's what I thought ... I was surprised when Archer called him a "crewman" ...

Was it just me, or was there something in the middle of that black circle?

To be honest, I thought that I saw a triangle or possibly a chevron in the circle. However, I was watching on a smallish size television and was sitting away from it. So I can't tell for certain.

The circle was certainly 3D and stuck out a bit in the middle, but I can't say I saw anything in it myself (again, admittedly on a small TV)

I saw it on a 27" screen and recorded it. There *does* seem to be something in the middle of the dark spot, but what it is escapes me.

Amended (though I won't stick something in the middle of the pip unless someone tells me what it looks like):

After a bit of digging around, I turned this up:

Clearly the round pip is detached, and it would appear the stripes aren't all the same length. I still think that the "something in the middle" of the pip is just the raised bulge in the middle reflecting light...

Another note... I noticed that the background extras in the messhall during "Unexpected" were pipless once again.
