Here's a doozy.. i open my local paper, and pull out the trash magazine (you know the one with the celebrity interviews, horoscope blah blah blah) On the cover are Archer, T'Pol & Reed posing in one of the quasi futuristic photo shoot areas and hold an array of current personal electronics

Reed has a video camera (which he is looking grim and holdfing like it was a weapon of course) Archer and T'Pol seem to have palm pilots or remotes in there hand, which they are brandishing like tricorders
the blurb 'Explore the New Frontier'
smaller blurb 'Of High Tech Living'

A couple more pictures of them inside are accompanied by price quotes and ordering information, but there isnt a mention of Star Trek in the article beyond the first sentence.

Bizarre, huh?

Hey, if it's got Jolene Blalock in it in her little uniform...it can't be all bad...

Marketing tends to work better when you can see it rather than just hear it described though....

Bernd: See those tricorders Archer and T'Pol are holding? Obviously, those are too advanced by TOS standards. Enterprise sucks my left nut!

::shrugs:: If I can grow accustomed to William Shatner singing the praises of PriceLine.com, then I can stand Reed, Archer, and T'Pol selling personal electronics. Now if we could get an ad of Hoshi Sato selling a ThighMaster, then we're in the business...

"Parade" magazine, as it is called in my area, while a rag, is not quite trash. Many "prestigious" actors agree to be interviewed for articles, whether they are the cover story or just a Brady interview. Indeed, one might argue that it is surprising a show with so few viewers (relative to the top-rated shows) is already being featured on the cover of a magazine that is not a dedicated entertainment magazine.

P.S. I have never seen a horoscope in my version of "Parade"

In Fact, "Parade" did something similar with the Voyager crew (Pre-Seven) a few years back.

I was similarly surprised to see Enterprise on the cover of the Dallas Morning News's television section as one of the few shows that's working this season. Not that I don't agree, but you don't often see Star Trek getting any mainstream publicity.
