Ran a search but it was inconclusive. I got the impression that Iceland is an unofficial name. Is it the warp delta?

If so, why Iceland?

..and thus, bad pun became the accepted name.
I'm thinking this is how the real Greenland got it's name.

Hey, you takes yer claims to fame where you can get 'em. My next goal is to get Bernd to mention the name in his piece on the ship. . .

Not so much a bad pun as a ruthless piece of 10th century propaganda! The place was named by Eric the Red who started a colony there around 1000 A.D. When he went home to recruit more colonists, rather than call it Wasteland or Really Bloody Cold And Miserable Land, he thought the name of Greenland might be more enticing.

What a bastard [Cool]

Greenland is gorgeous.

Also, to be fair, a smaller Norway would be a Denmark, yes?

It's the Iceland. ICELAND!!!

And hey, I'm the guy who named the Shelley class. Since the end of Unseen Frontier, it's my only real claim, so I'm running with it. [Smile]

Yeah, but then you'd always hear that insipid "something is rotten in Denmark" line whenever the ship was mentioned.

...Except that your clam is usually being quoted as the Shelly class. [Razz]

First person to photoshop the name USS Shelly onto a clam wins.

Or an egg. [Wink]

Anyway, people who call it "Shelly-class" are all poo-poo heads for Trek fans. So there!
