Yes, but the Defiant textures seems to match those on the Fact Files diagram rather closely.

So maybe they just slapped Defiant textures onto the model? Was the Defant in FC CGI? I know texture swapping is done in video games, maybe it's done in movies too?

Even the Akira has modified maps from the Enterprise, doesn't it? Still, they all looked pretty good on screen, so fair play to the effects artists for getting away with such ropey models.

Nope, the Akira had properly painted textures. Not great textures, but reasonable ones.

And before anyone asks, I'm traveling and kinda busy.

Sorry boys, buried under a lot of work right now. I did render up the Saber the other night when I had 5 minutes to spare and my gf wasn't looking.

Oh, we are a patient lot, but the Saber would be nice to see as well. Actually my favourite ST:FC ship.

I really liked the FC designs, just not their grey-purple-brown hull textures, it made me think of 1980's farming tools. Would be nice to see the Saber and Akira in white enamel NCC-2000 finish, with black seams. Like that whale probe's scanning ball? That would give them some class.

I'd prefer to see them with the grey onscreen look of the Galaxy class- to make them look like designsthat have been around a few years.

Well congrats, that's the only way they've been displayed for 14 years.

I like alternative renderings, playing with aesthetics, spicing things up. On my old comp I had a pic of a Federationized Bird of prey, white hull with black radiator flanges, and a blue torp nozzle glow. Miss that one.
Certain ship designs and images are like rare paintings, you shouldn't look at them too often, every time you do you dilute them, the eye consumes a part of them and the effect diminishes.
