It's possible the Constitution is the marriage of ideas from both the NX and the Daedalus. While the NX seemed pretty maneuverable and fast, combat never seemed to be its strong suite. Likewise, the Daedalus may have proven to be a more rugged design due to its secondary hull and TOS-esque armor plating, but not nearly as nimble. Starfleet engineers took the best features of both and combined them to make the seemingly well rounded Constitution.

Possibly. I think I;d have an easier time accepting the design if maybe it was the first of perhaps two intermediate concepts - one a rugged hull-platey version, the other more Constitution-like with the smooth hull.

I liken the NX to a hot rod and the Daedalus to a Voklswagon bus, and I think the relative simplicity of the Daedalus hull actually helps that. A real no frills, nothing extraneous design compared to the, dare I say, bling of the NX hull.
